Jeff Sessions doesn't want DHS bill separated from immigration

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) on Tuesday suggested lawmakers should keep a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) tied to a controversial fight over immigration.

The Alabama Republican rejected a narrative by Democrats and some Republicans that the immigration provision should be separated from the DHS bill because the issue is currently before the courts.

A Texas judge last week temporarily halted the immigration actions President Obama unveiled last November. The Justice Department on Monday asked for an emergency court ruling to allow Obama's immigration action to go forward.

“There is a reasonable chance that some court will lift the stay and allow the president to begin implementing the amnesty pending a final ruling on the merits of the case. But Congress can stop it, has the duty to stop it in its appropriations bill,” Sessions said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he would “be happy" to pass a clean DHS bill before the Senate considers a measure overturning Obama’s most recent executive actions on immigration.

It’s unclear what the House will do in response to McConnell’s proposal, but Sessions stood by the original House-passed bill, which would fund DHS but reverse Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

“The House of Representatives acted wisely, properly, funding Homeland Security and not allowing activities to be carried out that are unlawful and that Congress has rejected,” he said. “Now, there are some even on the Republican side that say, ‘Oh, gosh, you know the president will blame us even if it’s not our fault and we might as well cave in and give him what he wants.’

One senator that gets it. If these pubs could only hang tight they have the numbers to beat obama. Problem is many if not most are pubs in name only.

This was Mitch and the rest of the quisling Republicans plan in the senate when they separated the dhs funding out of the budget battle last fall.

Most of us knew these turds were planning to fold on this back then.

Face it, Mitch, cornyn, graham, Collins, McCain, Ayotte et al ARE the Enemy!

I am missing something here an would appreciate help.

If funding Obama’s Executive Action on immigration is stripped from the bill happens, why is that bad?

If the immigration funding is a separate bill the debate will separate the sheep from the goats - and it will be a matter of record. I believe it is a one subject debate we must have from the halls of Congress.

Because we actually want to stop this, it is to important. It isn’t just a symbolic issue, it is ballgame.

Again Alabama’s gallant senator stands in the breach. What is wrong with these other clowns? Do they not understand what is at stake here? Sessions has made it so clear.

but is it just a symbolic issue? To me the common sense way would be to get the immigration issue into one bill - no amendments. Then debate it and defeat it once and for all. By doing it that way the issue is dead. And the proponents are identified without resorting to guessing and reading between the lines of every speech. It is a matter of who voted “yea.”

What are the other options?

So far it is a little confusing. I have read it the way you are interpreting it, and have read contradictory information in the same article. The way I have so far interpreted it is, the House bill prohibits Obama from spending on amnesty. If that is stripped from the bill, even though they say they are not providing funding, Obama can spend the budget on amnesty. He will veto the followup bill that prohibits spending on amnesty, and spend as he sees fit.

What Mitch is doing is offering what the media and dems say is a “clean” bill, meaning everything Obama wants including the funding for both illegal amnesties for illegal aliens.
Amnesty number one happened in 2012 when Owebowmao unilateraly implemented the Dream Act even though it did not pass Congress and isn’t an Act.
Amnesty number two is the one he anounced this fall. It has been blocked temporarily by a Federal Judge in TX.

Mitch is going to have a vote on a separate bill that would, if passed, remove the funding for the illegal amnesty number two only.

This will either not pass or be vetoed.

Owebowmao then gets the money for his illegal amnesties for illegal aliens.
What’s worse, they can then go into court and tell the judge that Congress has ratified his illegal amnesties for illegal aliens by funding them.

This is a huge double cross.
