Your Action Urgently Needed to Prevent BATFE from Banning Common Rifle Ammunition!

Oppose BATFE's Expansion of the Federal "Armor Piercing" Ammo Ban and Tell Congress to Act

President Obama insisted that if Congress would not enact his gun control agenda, he would do so on his own, through executive action. Whatever else can be said of the president’s track record, he is doing his utmost to keep that promise. Having failed to enact a federal ban on the AR-15, America’s most popular rifle, he’s now using the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to do the next best thing. BATFE is now proposing to ban a whole class of common rifle ammunition used in that overwhelmingly popular firearm. Unfortunately, that’s just the beginning of BATFE’s latest move.

[....]

While the most visible and immediate effect of the framework is BATFE's revocation of the "sporting purposes" exemption for M855 ammunition, its long-term consequences could be even more severe. Once an "AP" projectile designed and intended by the manufacturer to be used in a rifle (for hunting, for example) "may be" shot from any commercially available multi-shot handgun, it could never be exempt under the framework (unless loaded in a .22 caliber rimfire cartridge). Basically, this means the virtual banning of non-lead centerfire rifle bullets, even as gun control activists and states are targeting lead bullets for separate bans. This collision of bans on both lead and non-lead bullets could eventually lead to a drastic reduction in lawfully-available ammunition offerings.

The issue arises from the federal Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act (LEOPA), intended to ban "armor piercing" handgun ammunition

The LEOPA was enacted to outlaw solid brass Teflon coated pistol ammunition that could punch through engine blocks and ½ steel plate.

As with so much of the legislation that come out of congress it is totally unconstitutional as written.

Any ammunition of firearm carried by our army in the field should be legal for a law abiding citizen to own, period no exceptions.

Agreed !!!

Also, lead bullet bans are not productive and the proposed copper replacements are terrible. In the Mexican-American War, the US lodged a protest with the International Court, because Mexican troops used copper bullets. Copper was considered poison and banned by international law. If someone was not lethally wounded with a lead bullet, he would generally live out his life with the bullet somewhere in his body. If someone was shot and survived with a copper bullet, the copper would be attacked by bodily fluids and form copper salts. The copper salts would kill by copper poisoning over a painful and debilitating several month period.

This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".

Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

While we're grinding our teeth, let's send these little Hitlers some input.

Yes, yes, I've written letters, too. And yes, I can't help but feel like it's pissing in the wind. These petty, tyrannical bureaucrats were given their marching orders, and the decision is already made. This "public input" is just window-dressing.

I hope I'm wrong. But considering who we're dealing with, I'm not very hopeful.

The power to regulate is the power to destroy. It's a power these cretins wield with impunity, "the people" be damned.

The power to regulate is the power to destroy, you’re right.

See how they’re doing several things at once? Net neutrality, ammo, immigration etc. We’re under full scale attack and yet the real American people still sit by and take it.

May God have mercy on us.

Good observation -
Apparent that body politic is exhausted by six years of Obola & co Alinsky-style overwhelm-the-system strategy and tactics.
Even Klinton wasn’t this ambitious or effective.
Reluctantly admire their drive, tenacity and discipline to bring about fundamental transformation end game.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of Valerie J-Obola-Dem leader planning sessions.
Being motivated by Satan appears to work for ‘em.
