Republicans must not let themselves be tricked into picking a moderate presidential nominee in 2016, by demanding their hopefuls have a demonstrated commitment to conservatism, Sen. Ted Cruz told an enthusiastic audience Thursday.
Cruz, himself a likely presidential candidate, warned activists gathered at the Conservative Political Action Conference near Washington that voters who pick the GOP nominee are likely to hear a similar pitch: "You betcha. Yep. Walker has not shown me the money yet. He is going to have to get real specific on immigration, gay marriage and most important to me actually cutting the size of rogue government. Just getting rid of the unions which is a good thing is not enough.

I listened to the live feed of Ted’s speech today, and it was typically fantastic. He again spoke without even approaching the podium, had tremendous eye contact with the audience, and blew the Q&A with Hannity away. He was also quite engaging and humorous as well. The funniest part occurred when Hannity asked him to give a one word comment on various political figures. When Hannity said the name, Bill Clinton, Cruz came back with — “youth outreach”! Everybody in the audience was rolling in the aisles.
What is an acceptable conservative rating? Is it 65%, 80%, 95% or is anything less than 100% a deal breaker? There are a few non-negotiable items, like abortion, for instance. But some of us seem to have single issue hangups that disqualify otherwise acceptable candidates.
Bottom line is, you send a candidate to office to do your will. If your will is in line with most of the people in your district, does the candidate do the will of the people while putting aside his own wishes if they differ?
Walker did not prove that he was conservative when he accepted the endorsements by pro-amnesty industries in Wisconsin.
Who would be on Ted Cruz’s short list of VP selections, should Ted Cruz become the final GOP pick for ‘16 POTUS?
