It is almost unbelievable how badly Congressional Republicans have botched their opposition to President Obama’s illegal executive amnesty and the funding of the Department of Homeland Security. The House, under John Boehner’s direction, did the right thing: it passed a bill that fully funded DHS, but barred spending to implement the amnesty that has now been declared illegal by a federal court. The action then moved to the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tried repeatedly to bring the House measure to the floor for a vote. Four times, the Democrats filibustered the DHS funding bill.
As a result of the Democrats’ filibuster, DHS was in danger of running out of money. That put Republicans in a strong position. All they had to do was…nothing. If they didn’t blink, pressure on the Democrats to fund DHS would prove irresistible. It’s not for nothing the voters gave the GOP a majority, right?
Instead, Mitch McConnell backed off. He gave in to Harry Reid’s demands, even though Reid was surely bluffing, and the Senate passed a “clean” DHS funding bill that did nothing to block the illegal amnesty.

Spot on. While there are many items needing correction by the CoS repeal of the 17th should be the first amendment proposed. Perhaps the only amendment proposed by the first CoS, a prototype as it were.
Actually, my wife believes the dim’s are blackmailing pubbies. I tend to agree with her.

Because they want to be that’s why. When it is their grasp to do something important for the country they will always do the opposite. Obama’s bitch Mitch could have just asked for a majority vote and sent the act to Obama and forced him to veto it openly. But no he strapped on his knee pads and compromised with the devil. If it was just bad leadership, Boehner would not have Been reelected as speaker.
All the Amendments proposed by Levin are good but the key is repeal of the 17th. Another Amendment whose repeal would help immeasurably but is probably impossible even to propose is repeal of the 19th. Women as a class have biologically based attitudes that are not compatible with a free Republic. My wife told me that a long time ago. It took years for me to agree with her. There should be no restriction on women running for or holding office but they should not have the vote. If the 16th, 17th, and 19th were repealed the nation accompanied by the abolition of most federal agencies and Cabinet departments would soar to new heights of prosperity and international power and stay there. That is a hell of a tall order but that is what is required. At this stage of dissolution it may well be that it is all too late. The Convention is too long in coming. It cannot be done in the next 6 months. By Summer if 34 states have passed the necessary resolutions I fear that the Sultan will make his definitive move to shut it down and use his alternative army if he thinks it necessary.
And they are ball-less because we don't keep the pressure on them and hold the nutless fools accountable!
You and I are in general agreement. IMHO we need to win over folks having heartfelt concerns about the CoS in order to be successful. So I was thinking that a proof of concept CoS would be a way to go in order to build confidence in the process among those with concerns. A CoS with a very limited agenda. And what better way to significantly increase state power in relation to the federal government than to repeal the 17th. I think once we have completed the first one in a controlled manner, subsequent CoS will be. Much easier to convine to address the serious structural issues we face. Anyway, the thoughts of a simple man.
I don’t know what planet you CoS folks live on, but the odds of eliminating the Electoral College are higher than repealing the 17th Amendment. I doubt that half of any group of Americans could even tell you the subject of the 17th, and would oppose its repeal because they support, like, democracy.
(Hell, half wouldn’t know The Bill of Rights!)
