House chaos leaves GOP senators fuming

Senate Republicans are fuming over the House GOP’s decision to extend the standoff over the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a move that they say uses up political oxygen and burns precious time on the legislative calendar.

GOP senators say it’s time to move on to other issues, such as the budget, trade legislation, and regulatory and tax reform.

They must defend 24 seats in the 2016 election and worry that voters could soon start to question their ability to govern unless they can move forward with a more substantive agenda.

The fight over President Obama’s executive actions on immigration brought that agenda to a standstill in February, as the threat of a homeland security shutdown thwarted other priorities.

“I just think we ought to move on to other things. I’m not sure how it helps for the American people to have the perception that Republicans in the Senate and Republicans in the House are at odds with each other,” said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“We have a lot of initiatives I think we could show the American people we can work together on,” he added.

Senate Republicans say there’s no need to extend the battle over immigration given that a federal court in Texas has declared that Obama’s executive action violated the Administrative Procedure Act.

“Why don’t we just look at the court decision in Texas, declare victory and move on?” said Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

Senate Republicans say they expect the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold Judge Andrew Hanen’s ruling on the district level.

“When the judge ruled, that was the way I wanted to end it,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

Because the jig is up with Roberts on the subprime court, the fifth circuit is probably being ordered to stop this before it can get to where the oligarchs will have to order Roberts, on penalty of exposure, to squelch the surge.

That is exactly what I was taught in school, but I have heard from my grandchildren that congressional procedure is no longer taught in school.

“Just violate what you stand for so we can win the next election and THEN we will do something...I promise!”

That has been a pretty common rallying cry these last few go-arounds [`12, `14], hasn't it?
Even here on FR I've had people blast me about not voting for Romney [in `12], or Republicans [in `14].

What was meant to be is what is.

Politics will not save us. Our nation has chosen this path and, unless there is a spiritual awakening, we will continue slouching toward the apocalypse—Gomorrah is already in our rear view mirror.

Is there anything on earth more useless than a McConnell led, republican senate majority?

The article mentions ability to govern. They weren’t elected to govern. They were elected to STOP OBAMA.

There is nothing right now more important than stopping this amnesty in its tracks.

I understand that mclame & missy graham have donors to pay back but it'll have to wait.

If the GOP could unite this is a slam dunk, but w/ the RINOs in charge of the senate the only thing they can think of is surrender.

F'em.

“Just curious why you chose to post a slant by McLame, Flake (ain’t that a fact) and Gramnesty?”

That wasn’t my intent. News stories are always slanted. I want people to know what’s going on.

Am I wrong about how this process is supposed to work?

You're right rhetorically about the process but IMPROVISING things to fit their OWN political agenda has become the order of the day in Washington D.C.

America can NEVER be restored as long as this continues.

That makes sense,

Little doubt the left and the GOPe wanted Net Neutrality to make sure not one would ever hear anything the MSM does not spin.

I’m in a different camp. I believe the absolutely best thing this Congress can do is absolutely nothing. Neither party is trustworthy, and as long as new administrative rules (like this FCC ruling) can be rolled out without any prior comment nor approval by any elected body, my preference is that they do utterly nothing. I DON’T want them to “get stuff done”. They cannot be trusted, they have no interest in serving any other aim other than their own needs.

“We have a lot of initiatives I think we could show the American people we can work together on,” (McCain) added.

Fools, all - and an incredibly lazy and puffed-up with-their-own-importance bunch of public "servants" to boot! Haven't these morons learned anything in the past six years?

Do they even care?

Why are we electing them and paying them and their staffs good money?

Why would they call themselves anything but "The King's Court Jesters"?

We have a gutless Republican leadership. Why the Republicans disarmed themselves? When in power, Senator Reid changed the rules of the Senate and imposed the nuclear option- not more filibuster, 51 votes will stop Obama's lawless tyrannical rule.

“GOP senators say it’s time to move on to other issues, such as the budget, trade legislation, and regulatory and tax reform.”

Maybe Mich’s ‘GOP’ senators are living in lala land but the they have no weight on any of those issues unless they happen to just want to pass whatever Obama Proposes.

The Democrat’s run both houses with the threat of shutdown should they not get their way. After Last years surrender, and this years post-election weakness Republicans have 2 choices:
1: Do the bidding of the Democrats.
2: ‘Shut down the government’ and get blamed by the press and all their corrupt & crony Washington ‘friends’.

Washington D.C. is the Democrat’s town. It takes spine to Govern the way you want to, you have to be willing to push beyond the other guy’s limits. The Democrats have the spine the house and Senate leadership don’t and that will never change until the GOP stand their ground long enough for the Dem’s to cave.
