The leader of the 9/11 attack was not a Saudi, nor was the planner. The cell leader was Atta, an Egyptian but a member of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, and one of Ayman al Zawahiri’s men, not one of OBL’s, and is thought to be the “Hamburg student” who met with Iraqi intel over the plan to bomb an anti-Saddam radio station operated by the US in the Czech Republic.
Ayman al Zawahiri, now the head of al Qaeda in addition to his own terror group, has marital ties to Iran’s theocracy, and a brother who leads the Muslim Bro in Egypt.
The 9/11 planner was no Saudi either; he is either a Kuwaiti or a Balochi, but his records are questionable as to birthplace as Iraq occupied Kuwait and had control of Kuwait’s records for a while. Baluchistan’s a region trat Iraq’s Baathist Party meddled in to wage a proxy was against the Shah of Iran, and though distant from Iraq has a history intertwined with it.
So the brains of the op were not Saudi. The “muscle,” on the other hand, was composed of 14 Saudi citizens hostile to their government, but it is probable that these Saudis were chosen for this purpose as part of a “false flag.” They may or may not have been ethnic Saudi, for there are many ethnicities in the kingdom including individuals of Yemeni, Palestinian or other heritage .
If you are going to launch an attack on the most powerful nation on earth you had best not choose your own nationals for the job. It’s much better to choose nationals belonging to an enemy state - and every country has dissidents suitable for recruiting. A Saudi dissident group related to AQ is al Mujahiroun- based in London, not Riyadh.
Thank you for that explanation of the smokescreen of using dissident Saudis.
That makes sense, and clarifies the issue.
