Rep. Steve King Moves To Preempt Clean DHS Bill

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is looking to preempt a little-known procedural rule that could allow a Democratic House Member to force a vote on the Senate’s clean Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill.

In an email to some 160 House Members Monday, King highlights a recent Roll Call article describing clause four of House Rule XXII, which essentially allows any House Member to dispose of amendments to a bill and force a vote when there is disagreement between the House and Senate.

“If we let Nancy Pelosi execute a privileged motion that would force a vote on the Senate version of DHS approps, it would pass and Obama’s lawless amnesty would be funded until Sept 30th,” King wrote in the email. “There is a way to block that motion.”

According to his office, the missive went to members on King’s Conservative Opportunity Society list.

“House Democrats are poised to take control of the floor and fund executive amnesty. A House Resolution can stop it, if we amend Rule XXII,” he explained.

King argues that the House majority can change the rule by a simple majority and that it “is our urgent obligation to immediately amend or suspend Clause 4 of Rule XXII.”

Indeed, shortly after dispatching the email, King had a bill drafted to do just that, to ensure that “any motion pursuant to clause 4 of rule XXII relating to the [DHS appropriations bill] may be offered only by the Majority Leader or his designee.”

I hope people realize that without Steve King and Jeff Sessions we would have already lost our country.

I have called both of their offices even though I am in Virginia to thank them.

It’s a pleasure to be able to call my new Rep. Dave Brat to thank him instead of calling that weasel Eric Cantor’s office to be condescended to by his snarky staff when I complained of his duplicity.

Yep. For all the glorious praise we heap on Ted Cruz the only one in the Senate that’s in the trenches fighting tooth and nail against illegal immigration and amnesty has been Jeff Sessions.

I don't know how BO can dump all his freebies for illegal $hi+ into a DHS funding bill and then demand a clean bill.

Hellooooooo! If you wanted a clean bill, you wouldn't be dumping it full of special $hi+ for favored constituencies.

I’m assuming “clean” means “Everything BHO and the Democrats want, aiding and abetting the destruction of America.”

If people tell their congressmen to support King this will work.

If they don't Obama will get his amnesty and the only ones to blame are the people who said nothing to their congressmen.

Isn’t amazing, and somewhat revealing, that the Republicans in the majority are clueless as to how to use all the parliamentary tactics the Democrats used liberally when in charge, like what Pelosi is doing here, like forcing a bill into conference where you don’t need 60 votes, like considering a bill “deemed to have been passed” like Obamacare, like originating a revenue bill in the Senate, also like Obamacare.

The only conclusion is that Republican “leadership” is actually very stupid, or in sympathy with liberal Democrat policies, or both.

If the positions on amnesty were reversed, the Democrats would have killed it long ago.

I do concur but one of those stalwarts hails from KS, named Tim Huelskamp, who was already punished for standing in the face of the liberal John Boehner, Eric Cantor et al running the House last two congresses, by removing his committee appointments!

Thankfully, Tim has also voted against Boehner's speakership each and every time the vote comes up.

This is exposing what Boehner wanted to do. He talks “regular order”, while Democrats use “nuclear options”. But had King not exposed this , Boehner would have said “I didn’t bring it to the floor!!” It was the Dems under regular order” Now King will pressure for a vote on this resolution and who in the conservatives can be against it? Now— Peter King, the Democrat from New York will want the Democrats to force the bill down conservatives throat. I think he will be the only one. No conservative wants to lose his seat for letting the Democrats take over the floor of the House. Great move. !!!let your Congressman know he or she must support the rule XII resolution to restrict bill introduction by anyone but the Speaker.

Fortunately, my own KS Rep. Kevin Yoder has voted to hold the Amnesty dollars out of DHS so far but I certainly don't trust him to stand fast with conservatives when the going gets tough.

He was probably given a pass on a first vote but he stood with Boehner in the past and wants to continue to be a "player in DC."

The question to ask him is will he help destroy the constitution?

Huelskamp’s example shows what’s wrong with Boehner’s leadership:
The RINOs should lose their committee posts if they vote against a rule change or for the ‘clean’ DHS bill.
But under Boehner Party discipline doesn’t apply to the RINOs.
