Advocates: Walker's budget could hurt programs for disabled
LaCrosse Tribune ^ | March 2, 2015 | DANA FERGUSON

"....Claire Yunker, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health Services, said in a statement that Walker’s proposal is aimed at preventing fraud and abuse in the existing system and creating a more coordinated care regimen.

But Daniel Idzikowski, executive director of Disability Rights — a group that advocates for people with disabilities — said his organization was not consulted about Walker’s plan that the Legislature will debate over the next three months.

It would drastically restructure Family Care, which administers personal care and long-term care services to elderly, disabled and injured Wisconsinites through Medicaid, he said.

“By and large that system’s working pretty well,” Idzikowski said. “Nobody’s saying we need to completely eliminate this system and replace it with a different model. I think everyone was surprised by these changes.”

Advocates for the disabled contend that the changes would allow larger for-profit organizations to enter the market, resulting in fewer options for those with disabilities.

Yunker said the state Medicaid fraud unit has been asked to investigate more claims pertaining to IRIS’s personal care program, which allows for assistance for bathing, dressing and other cares, than for any other Medicaid benefit. She said the state doesn’t keep track how many confirmed cases of such fraud there were.........

And even worse, soon Walker will kill all the puppies in Wisconsin by personally infecting them with the evil pavro virus. Be afraid, very afraid.

The Left will scheme ‘til they’ve defined half of us as disabled, then employ the other half to take care of us (that is until the “disabled” get too expensive and need to take that “end of life” counseling for the sake of everyone else).

From this day forward, anything Walker does or says will impact the poor/elderly/handicapped/gender confused/weird people out there who survive on taxpayer colostrum.

Just as a matter of good English, let's get rid of the phrase "advocate for (something)." You can advocate (verb) something, or you can be an advocate (noun) for something (or someone), but "I advocate for something" is a grammatical impossibility. It doesn't surprise me that this ungrammatical phrase is used only by the Left.

I think “Advocates:” was added as “window dressing” for this news outlet.

This story was reprinted all across the nation.

Forced drug testing is dangerous public policy "Imagine if an elderly loved one were thrown off her Medicare because she tested positive for diabetes. Sound impossible? For the family and friends of Wisconsinites suffering from drug issues, a dreadful scenario such as this could become reality.

Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to drug test people receiving BadgerCare and other public programs flies into the teeth of the consensus among experts that substance misuse is a medical condition.

In the 19th century, diseases such as cancer and influenza were often blamed on the moral failings of the afflicted. Now we know better. Rather than heaping scorn upon the victims of serious illnesses, we treat them with modern medicine.

Over the last two decades, the scientific progress on how we treat physical diseases has been extended to drug and alcohol use. Doctors and other health care experts use the term "substance use disorder" when referring to drug and alcohol-related health issues. Research has firmly established substance use disorders as medical conditions to be prevented and treated as early as possible.

Forced drug testing for people on public programs turns back the clock by reinforcing outdated images of those battling with substance use disorders. From a medical point of view, it would be like requiring tests for cancer or heart disease, and then throwing anyone who tests positive off health coverage........"

Don’t you know that Walker hates people with disabilities? That Republicans in general love breathing dirty air and drinking dirty water and they hope that everyone gets sick from doing so? That Republicans hate the elderly and hate kids that are on the school lunch program? They also hate homeless people, sick people, mentally disturbed people, children in general, moms, dads, sisters, brothers, grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, cousins, dogs, cats, and on and on and on. Same old Democratic babble over and over and over.

That professional bitcher should have ample opportunity to argue/present his case during that lengthy legislative debate. But for the present, an opportunity to trash the Gov.

See my tagline.

I used to work for a public employees union in CA. Anytime there was any sort of budget cut or reorganization proposal, the unions ran ads that the elderly, disabled, and, of course, the children were going to suffer. Their only solution was to raise taxes on the rich.

The real reason is they were protecting their pensions and demanding wage increases.

Are you from WI? I notices you post a lot of Walker stories. When I was working for the union in CA and I saw how Walker stood up to all the protests from the unions, I sent his a couple of donations. Then I’d walk into my bosses’ office, look at his “We stand with Wisconsin” sign and smile to myself. If he wins the nomination the public employee unions will stop at nothing to defeat him.
