This makes the euphoria we felt over our decisive win of last November seem childishly naive. There was never any chance that Boehner would have the balls to thwart Obama — or that McConnell even wanted to. Let’s be honest, they are Vichy Republicans. Their loyalty is to their positions and perks, which means their donor class — power they have ceded to the Führer. I am mostly angry with myself for allowing myself to believe — then — that things might actually change.
All true, and the American people are incapable of understanding the fix has been in place for generations. An example: Nixon expanding the Great Society.
