Ringling Bros. is getting rid of elephants [ 8^( ]

The nation’s leading big top act – Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus – will phase out elephants by 2018, succumbing to years of pressure from animal rights activists.

The Associated Press reported that Ringling Bros. circus’ parent company, Feld Entertainment, will have its stable of 43 pachyderms live out their days at the 200-acre Center for Elephant Conservation in central Florida.

Elephants belong in their home countries. Frankly, I don’t believe in circuses or zoos. Both are “unnatural”.

I would guess that most peoples experiences in seeing a real, live elephant was via the circus or zoo. It's at these venues that we learn to see it as a real life animal. I actually think the animal "rights" people are hurting their stated cause by isolating people from these animals.

But of course I don't think it's about the animals with them anyways....

You mean like the Shrine Circus where a group comes out as the trapeze act “The Flying Pepperoni Brothers” and little later the same group becomes “The Amazing Zamboni Family” as a high-wire act?

It’s about their desires read into the animals, and sometimes it isn’t realistic. An elephant properly cared for is just a big pet. Teach it that when it goes into the circus ring it gets elephant treats, and it will like doing that.
