The Associated Students of University of California, Irvine voted to ban hanging flags in its main lobby.
The flag banning legislation passed with six yea votes, four nay, and two abstentions.
he Associated Students of University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) voted Tuesday to remove all flags, including American flags, from an inclusive space on campus because of their offensive nature.
The bill, R50-70, was authored by Social Ecology Representative Matthew Guevara, and accuses all flags, especially, the American flag, of being “symbols of patriotism or weapons for nationalism.”
“[F]lags construct paradigms of conformity and sets [sic] homogenized standards for others to obtain which in this country typically are idolized as freedom, equality, and democracy,” the bill reads.
The legislation argues that flags may be interpreted differently; the American flag, for example, can represent “American exceptionalism and superiority,” as well as oppression.
“[T]he American flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism,” the bill continues, arguing that “symbolism has negative and positive aspects that are interpreted differently by individuals.”
The anti-flag hanging bill adds that free speech, such as flags in inclusive spaces, can be interpreted as hate speech.
“[F]reedom of speech, in a space that aims to be as inclusive as possible[,] can be interpreted as hate speech,” the bill reads.
“Let it be resolved that ASUCI make every effort to make the Associated Students main lobby space as inclusive as possible.”
“Let it further be resolved that no flag, of any nation, may be hanged on the walls of the Associate Student main lobby space.”

If I were president, all federal money to this school, ie grants, student loans, any support at all, would stop. Watch what happens when the money runs out!!!
some one needs to keep track of stuff like this so that if these people that voted to get rid of the flag ever run for public office the voters are informed of these actions. I wonder how many of them would vote this way if they knew there vote would fallow them later in there political career.

Now that's good priorities.
They can cancel the Department of Mexican American Studies and live within their budgets.
Maybe the idiots will grind out a few more Comp Sci majors to work at Apple. That would actually be a good use of the money.
Ditto, if at least only for a reality check (I am a sucker for giving people a second chance). Eight of the voters in that council of 12 ought to be dropped outside the gate at al Asad, or anywhere in Iraq for that matter.

The Gov is doing a good job so far. And anyone who terrorizes the U of A cash cow is my PAL.

Further with the inclusion of the extreme request, get the names of all students who agreed to this nonsense and deny them visas in perpetuity to those countries they may try to visit some day...and let America know who they are educating, learn their names and never forget this act of disrespect.
