Indians Hunting Buffalo (Charles Marion Russell)
Oh, good grief.
A Native American group is calling on “Buffalo, New York” to change its racist, insensitive name.
Pundit Press reported:
Mark Beasley, a member of the Navajo Nation, has started a petition for Buffalo, NY to change its racist and offensive name. According to Beasley, he speaks for his Native American colleagues.
Beasley writes in his petition that Buffalo is the name of the animal that was driven almost to extinction by the non-Native forces in order to annihilate and drive out my ancestors from the American landscape.
Further, Within only a few years from the beginning of the campaign, all Native nations were driven off their lands and into reservations, where we have prior and since been unduly subjugated and and [sic] exposed to genocidal horrors unimaginable to the rest of the world and throughout history.
For these reasons, Beasley writes, Buffalo should change their offensive and racist names containing the word Buffalo.

We’ve become a nation of whiny pantywaists.
They didn’t like it when paleface got the same idea huh.
and how about bocephus
from Italian bufalo, from Late Latin b;falus, alteration of Latin b;balus ; see bubal, bub, bubba, billy, bill clinton. Bill Clinton, N.Y., bocephus, botox, billary, hillary, Hillary Clinton, NY.
Yeah but look at all the free stuff you get on "the rez" and just think of all the food joints you're going to be able to sue for selling buffalo wings.
They had significant means to resist the invasion of Europeans, and applied them, but of course they were overwhelmed.
One can see this confrontation as inevitable and following a predictable course, but its outcome has to be seen as tragic.

...or to something less cheezy.
Regards,
Here it comes. Get ready Indiana, Delaware, Indianapolis, Tuscaloosa (wiping out the Groucho Marx line “the tusca loosa in Alabama), Miami, etc.
And then there is Moose Jaw, maybe they need to go north.
I re-read Paul Johnson’s The Birth of the Modern recently.
He mentioned that in the 18-19th Centuries a significant number of Indians settled down on farms or in other businesses, and became Americans. I got the impression it was about half, maybe more.
Strangely enough, the Fighting Sioux (Grand Forks) had to drop their name, but the Bison (Fargo) didn’t.
There are no Native Americans. Just an argument over when everybody got here and what rights they should have.
By the way, Indians didn’t have horses until the White Man showed up.
May I have an order of Nickel City Wings?
Will the restaurant chain have to change its name to Nickel City Wild Wings?
LET HE, WHO IS WITHOUT SIN.......

And.... Buffalo was named for the river...the beautiful river. “Buffalo” sounds like the french words for beautiful river.
Beau fleuve!
The American Indians in a large area of North America were able to survive thanks to their ability to hunt and kill the American Bison. They used the meat, the pelt, the sinew, etc., to sustain their existance.
The term ‘buffalo’ seems to mostly apply to water buffalo in the Asian countries. It is a term not relevant to the animals in the USA.
The American Bison is unique and not found elsewhere.
As a Buffalo resident, I vote for changing it to Injun Killer, NY.
The jokes write themselves.
