Any person with eyes can see the deep feeling of disappointment that has prevailed within the Zionist Union since Saturday evening. That is when Isaac Herzog, the Zionist Union's candidate for prime minister for the first half of the next government's term, lost his cool in a brief televised confrontation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
I wonder what would have happened if Herzog or Zionist Union No. 2 Tzipi Livni had taken part in a more in-depth debate with Netanyahu. Not even their best friends in the media, who are fully mobilized on their behalf, could have saved them. Before we vote on Tuesday, we must consider whether Herzog would be able to stand up for even three minutes to U.S. President Barack Obama, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh or Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, as well as any of the other foxes gathering around Jerusalem.
Throughout this short and ugly election campaign, Herzog and Livni have purposely flown under the public's radar. Zionist Union strategists have particularly tried to hide Livni, who once told ABC News that a Palestinian who attacks IDF soldiers is not a terrorist. This is similar to a statement made by a spokesperson for the Joint Arab List, which has turned into a natural partner for the Zionist Union.
With smiling photos and empty slogans, Herzog and Livni's fundamental beliefs have been covered up. Biased polls conducted behind closed doors have given them a boost and Yedioth Ahronoth has dedicated dozens of pages to stories about marginal issues like recycled bottles. News websites have made a concerted effort to paint a bleak picture of life in Israel, making people believe their lives are bad when things are actually pretty good here. The slogan "anyone but Bibi" caught fire, until the past few days, when the public began to ask itself this question: If not Bibi, then who? On Saturday evening, the public saw that Herzog is not capable of leading Israel at such a volatile time in our region.
I, along with many other Israelis, pray the day will come when bureaucrats can lead the country, like in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden. But until then, we need a visionary prime minister who is strong, determined and courageous. The prime minister of Israel must have an internal compass that is not subject to the influence of public relations agents, misguided foreign leaders, writers for whom words are everything and other self-important individuals.

Good thing Sheldon Adelson is none of those things. Israel Hayom is Shelly’s newspaper.
For those who might like some reading ... :-) ...

Agreed. And now they’ve dropped their rotation deal.
Israeli voters should carefully consider whether a man who backtracks from a political partnership no longer convenient for him, is fit to be Prime Minister.
Like it or not, Benjamin Netanyahu - not Buzi Herzog - is the adult in the room.
He deserves to be re-elected to a fourth term.

Herzog or Livni would join Kerry in trying to negotiate a poor deal for Israel. I can only imagine that outcome. If we think we are close to Jacob’s Trouble, or the 70th week of Daniel, that would be the one thing that would tell me and others that the end has arrived. I don’t think Netanyahu would negotiate a peace treaty with just anybody, but these other characters want to show just how savvy they are. This is scary!
