Before I take sides I hope to see this from both the student’s point of view and how it looked to the police. If he started it, he might deserve the roughing up that he got.
No police in these communities. Let them have at it.

I can testify to that.
I resisted arrest on more than one occasion, and got the hell beat out of me... it was my own fault.
My drunken mouth got me in a position where I couldn't protect my drunken butt, too bad for me.
BTW, there were no racist cops, both black and white cops were involved in my well deserved butt whippens.
Other than about 50-60 stitches in my face and head {over multiple events} and many lessons painfully, and slowly learned there appears to have been no long term damage.
I have no sympathy for loud mouths that take a beating from cops, that they themselves have earned, and I don't give a damn about skin pigmentation.
This is a narrative story. It is not an actual happening story. It would not be in the news, were it not for the fact that it fits the narrative.
I see what they are trying to do, and understand their motives. Therefore, I reject the narrative story until I hear more details. Much ado about nothing.
I believe it was the Virginia alcohol cops who made the arrest.

It was so obviously pumped out for ratings and buzz, because as is the usual MO of the real racists, there was totally absent no other hint of another side to the story.
Give it 36 hours and this non-story blows up like Sharpton styled stories always do.

The ‘hands up don’t shoot’ being a lie should have been the lead story on the DOJ report. It wasn’t. Instead it was ‘widespread racism’ and ‘racist emails.’
Why? Because that fit the narrative the media is selling.
They want blacks to be segregated into a distinct victim class so they keep voting Democrat.
Sure they’ll do the same thing with Hispanics. Hispanic studies. History books explaining how Hispanics are victims.
They can’t allow integration and success for minorities. Otherwise, they’d start paying taxes and voting Republican.
But, he was white... so not newsworthy.
But when someone is pulling what he apparently did, it can, and has resulted in innocent people getting seriously hurt, even killed. Given the current environment, it may well yet result in innocent people getting injured or killed.
When I read the quote: "..."I go to UVA! ... You f****** racists! What the f***? How did this happen?" I pretty much lose any sympathy, because it gives me a clearer mental image of how this was playing out on the scene.
There are many seemingly bright, well educated people of all colors who become flaming screeching a-holes when intoxicated.
He was denied entry to a bar, and became violent and abusive. One can see the scene now, all the liberal college students standing by, railing at the police who were questioning him, egging him on, and him, thinking that everyone is with him (probably were) yelling things at the police, the tension level rising, people becoming more agitated...something is going to happen. If you are lucky and have friends, at this point (if there is a friend) they come over and say "Come on, let's go somewhere else..." as they grab him by the arm.
This guy may be a guiding light of some kind when he is meeting with the Honor Society, but I think he was an obnoxious, violent drunk, stirring up a crowd with accusations of racism and foul language.
I don't care what his color was. I have seen enough people of all kinds pull this in a public place, and getting taken to the ground because you are fighting the cops is something that happens if you fight. I have more sympathy for the cops. Their life will be Hell.
The scalp and face have a very rich blood supply so it doesn’t take much to result in lots of blood. The minimal amount of stitches say it was a pretty minor injury, all things considered. As another poster notes, VA ABC does not have a stellar record so some more details would aid the discussion. Right now, having once been 20 and stupid, I’m saying this is another case of 20, stupid, and drunk. I shall await further developments to arrive at a final opinion.
Since the letter refers to the drunk as an African American, does that make me European Canadian or a Caucasian Canadian? Other than capitalizing the first letter of the country of residence, why the use of two capital letters?
Imagine the confusion if this drunk happened to be a naturalized American of Boer descent, having been born in South Africa. Such a person WOULD be an honest to goodness ‘African’ American! Would the good Doctors feel such outrage that an ‘African’ American with straight, blonde hair, pale skin and blue eyes got bloodied by the booze fuzz? I don’t think so! The racism seems to be on YOUR part, Doctors Martin and Apprey! Stop your sniveling and grow up, Doctors!

By the way.... Did this student violate the UVA Honor Code by attempting to 1) obtain alcohol while under age? 2) use a fake ID to obtain alcohol while under age? 3) resist arrest?
Is this student on the honor council itself?
Is this student one of the leaders of local UVA Ferguson protests (i.e., an inflammatory, race-baiting liar)?
In the olden days the cops would have busted him up for a foul mouth.
I had a working companion who,back in the early 1960s, cussed out two Chicago cops. They proceeded to drive him way out in the country and beat the coon dog s*** out of him, then drove off and left him there.
