The Obama administration showed no signs of mending fences with Benyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, last night as preparations began in Jerusalem for talks to form of a new coalition government. Despite calls by Reuven Rivlin, Israels president, to begin a healing process following last weeks bitterly divisive election, Mr Obama has refused to allow Mr Netanyahu to take back comments apparently ruling out a Palestinian state while he was in power.
"We take him at his word when he said that it wouldn't happen during his prime ministership, Mr Obama said in an interview, reiterating that his administration would now evaluate what other options are available.
Mr Obamas remarks reflect deep anger in the administration at Mr Netanyahu apparently ruling out a two-state solution for the Middle East and using racially charged warnings that Israeli Arabs were voting in droves to scare up votes on the Israeli Right.
We indicated that that kind of rhetoric was contrary to what is the best of Israel's traditions, Mr Obama told The Huffington Post, arguing that Mr Netanyahus comments had undermined the fabric of Israeli democracy.
Although Israel was founded based on the historic Jewish homeland and the need to have a Jewish homeland, Israeli democracy has been premised on everybody in the country being treated equally and fairly, Mr Obama said.

Just another liar.
If you think that Israel is an occupier of the Palestinian areas and is unfair to them ... then I can see why you don’t support Netanyahu.
But you have to realize that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu really does want the Palestinians to have their own state. Netanyahu is in favor of a TWO-STATE SOLUTION. He wants a PEACEFUL solution in which the Palestinians will live in peaceful harmony with Israel.
Now what is wrong with that?! Why would you be against Netanyahu for that?!
I think Netanyahu made it clear that this was a mistaken impression. But ... just for the “sake of discussion” only ... let’s pretend for just this post that Netanyahu intended to say he was against a Two-State Solution and then later said he was FOR a Two-State Solution.
Wouldn’t you rather have Netanyahu FOR a Two-State Solution, since you think that the Palestinians are “Occupied”? Would not their OWN STATE be preferable to you?
The secretary general reiterated his view that the two-state solution was the only way forward and urged the prime minister to renew Israel's commitment to that goal.
The secretary-general also urged the prime minister to release the tax revenue currently held by Israel but owed to the Palestinian Authority. In January, Israel froze the transfer of $138 million in tax collections to the Palestinian Authority.
On Wedneday, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called on Israel to revive "negotiations for an agreement on a comprehensive and a final peace" with the Palestinians based on a two-state solution.
"Only the creation of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel, will ensure peace and prosperity in the Middle East," Fabius said. "It is in Israel's interest to go this way," Fabius said.
Despite calls by Reuven Rivlin, Israels president, to begin a healing process following last weeks bitterly divisive election,
You realize Bibi increased his seat count.
If the Marxists and Progressives increased THEIR seat count and were set to form the Government, you would not hear any shite about “bitterly divisive” and a need for healing
You make categorical statements in a void. Hamas came into being in the south after Israel unilaterally gave up Gaza and hezbollah is an Iranian construct on the northern border. As for Israel being an occupier you may want to read a history of the region. Try starting with the Arab response to Israel in 67 at the Sudan conference
Netanyahu needs only to hold his ground and buy time until the next election.
I guess you and Bibi are right and the rest of the civilized world is wrong.
Good luck with that.
A guy raised as a Muslim telling Israel about it's traditions. That takes some brass ones.
In regards to UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, Netanyahu has affirmed that he is in support of the TWO-STATE SOLUTION and has not changed his position from the time of his Bar-Ilan speech. That should be clear by now. Netanyahu has renewed that commitment countless times on many news interviews in the last several days.
The tax revenue is a problem because the Palestinian Authority (whom Israel has been negotiating with over the years) has joined up just recently with Hamas, who won’t negotiate with Israel, and whom Israel won’t negotiate with either, as Hamas has not renounced their desire to violently overthrow Israel and take over all of Israel). All the Palestinian Authority would have to do is denounce Hamas and not link up with a group dedicated to violently overthrowing Israel, and not try to force a Palestinian State upon Israel outside of “negotiations”. They would get that money immediately then.
In terms of France’s call for negotiatons, Netanyahu has said many times he would go anywhere, at any time and meet with anyone to have final status talks to form the Palestinian State. The problem has been that the Palestinian Authority refuses to negotiate with Israel without their own “preconditions” set up before negotiations. The whole point of “negotiations” is that those “preconditions” that the Palestinian Authority wants given to them without any question, right up front ... are the very “points” for “negotiations”. The Palestinians need to simply go in there and negotiate because Israel will!
The issue of a viable and sovereign state living In peace with Israel is exactly what Netanyahu is talking about in his Bar-Ilan speech ... :-) ...

I would theorize that Bibi could negotiate a two state solution well past Jan 2017. Or just a couple of days past. :-)
The thing about “What Netanyahu said, and what he meant ...” is answered by NETANYAHU HIMSELF.
Namely, if you come to me, and you say that my position is now different because of what I said yesterday ... WELL ... the person who can AUTHORITATIVELY TELL YOU what I meant by what I said ... is “ME” and me alone. I’m the ONLY ONE who can “clarify my position” you see ... because ... it’s “my position” ... :-) ...
THEREFORE the ONLY PERSON who can tell you WHAT Netanyahu’s position is right now ... is ... NETANYAHU ALONE and no one else.
If you refuse to take Netanyahu’s explanation of what his position is today, and accept someone else’s explanation of Netanyahu’s position which goes against what Netanyahu says ... then you must think that person is a “MIND READER” somehow ... LOL ...
What’s clear to me is that you support Palestine, which could have been absorbed into other Arab states. Now, it is the case that Palestinians can be refused entry into, for example, Arab universities—as those universities don’t want them; I learned this from someone first-hand.
Israel WON its territory. It is God given and God blessed. Retreat from territory won in battle is not going to happen.
The thing about that is that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said clearly, in the last few days, that he is in support of the TWO-STATE SOLUTION, per his Bar-Ilan major policy speech of 2009, right after Obama became President.
Netanyahu has said he has not abandoned his position on this Two-State Solution or Bar-Ilan.

I hear and have seen what you’ve posted, ST. However, I believe that if Israel and/or Jerusalem splits, so shall we. Not recognizing its capital is akin to not recognizing ours. I don’t know where 2 states will come from, but I don’t support that, and I have followed this issue since 1963.
It’s clear to me that we are under judgment. Further, the worldwide propaganda makes hunting down facts very hard. Those who align with the Arabs align with the forces of Darkness. Those what curse Israel will be cursed themselves. Likewise with those who abandon her.
If we are not near the End Times ourselves, we have to be quite close. Since 0bama has been this supported here in America or what it has been, I wonder what the actual Anti-Christ is going to be like, especially due to the darkness and chaos he spreads wherever he directs his focus.
God bless Israel and all who protect and defend her.
God’s covenant is with Israel. The seed of Ishmael is not included—that seed being Arabs.
ping
Absolutely! (But he can’t let that bit hit the news, can he..)
I’ve got a suggestion on what obama can do with that olive branch.
