Ted Cruz, the presidential candidate who wants to increase the H-1B cap by 500%
Computerworld ^ | March 23, 2015 | Patrick Thibodeau

It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill.

No the analogy does not work. China opening factory farms in the USA manned by foreign workers undercutting the IOWA farmers would be the analogy.

You are starting to really piss me off. There is no defending the H-1B visa program. You can be for Cruz and that's ok. BUT HE IS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THIS ISSUE.

It is a deal breaker for me but no you, ok fine. The program itself is not defensible on any level.

RE :”I guess you don't understand laws of supply and demand. . Screw you. “

It guess you think the world economy can be characterized by a simple multiplication of two numbers together because that's as far as you got in school.

I cant imagine why that H1B got your job.

From your link...

Immediately increase the H-1B cap by 500 percent from 65,000 to 325,000.

To truly fix our broken immigration system and take into account our nation’s economic needs, we must put more emphasis on increasing employment-based immigration. There is a current shortage of qualified high-skilled workers in the U.S., with an estimated 230,000 advanced-degree STEM jobs going unfilled by 2018.

Additionally, more H-1B workers mean more jobs for American workers – according to a study by the American Enterprise Institute, for every additional 100 H-1B workers, 183 jobs are created for U.S. citizens.
Help retain the high-skilled workers that are trained in the U.S. by allowing “dual intent.”

This would allow foreign students at U.S. colleges and universities to enter the U.S. on a temporary H-1B visa if they intend to get a Green Card once they complete their studies.

Currently, about 300,000 students come to America annually to be educated, but are required to return home upon completing their education.
Create block grants for states to promote STEM education in their public schools by raising H-1B fees.

These block grants will encourage educating our children in these high demand fields, opening more doors of opportunity to future generations. According to the Joint Economic Committee, between 2010 and 2020, demand for STEM graduates is expected to grow by 17 percent, while employment for those graduates will increase only 14 percent, partly because American graduates are not available or qualified to fill these jobs.

The block grant program would be funded by raising H-1B fees from $750 to $1,250 for businesses with fewer than 25 employees, and from $1,500 to $2,500 for those with 25 or more employees.

I’m sure Sen Cruz will be discussing this amendment/idea, repeatedly, on the campaign trail.

That is lie, anyone who works in IT can tell you this is BS.

I know you are frustrated.
These people who don't look like us with funny accents come over and get high paying jobs and you have to go into their offices and pickup their trash. Its humiliating.

I know it seems so unfair.

I see your problem, educated immigrants learn how to read and write in English before they come here making your writing look bad.

Did ya know that FR has a spell-checker?

I like your ability to articulate your position. So, I do have respect for your point-of-view.

With that being said, I think Walker is going to self-destruct on his flip-flopping stance on illegal immigration, which will open the door to a Ted Cruz presidency even wider.

I'm sure you have already seen this, but for others who might not know about Walker's pandering to the Chamber of Amnesty:

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker told a private dinner of New Hampshire Republicans this month that he backed the idea of allowing undocumented immigrants to stay in the country and to eventually become eligible for citizenship, a position at odds with his previous public statements on the matter…

But during the March 13 New Hampshire dinner, organized by New Hampshire Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn at the Copper Door Restaurant in Bedford, Mr. Walker said undocumented immigrants shouldn’t be deported, and he mocked 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s suggestion that they would “self-deport,” according to people who were there…

Thank you for your kind words, and I am keeping my powder dry with regard to Walker. I saw the report you mentioned, but have not had time to read it carefully. What I did read so far indicates that this information is coming from "witnesses", which makes me cautious about accepting it at first blush. I'd like to see a transcript of the speech or hear a recording to know exactly what was said and in what context before I judge. I have seen too many cases where comments were taken out of context or deliberately mis-reported in an attempt to tear an opponent down.

With that being said, if Walker did say he favored a path to citizenship in that meeting and then says he does not favor such a path in public, that kind of blows his credibility out of the water.

"Guess what? I am not voting for Cruz because FOR ME it is a deal breaker.

The GOPe/CoC will always rant and whine about STEM shortages the same way that libtards bleat about fossil fuel induced global warming. That's because many of the donors are Immigration Attorney PACs and real estate developers, and they need bodies to fill their overpriced plantations.

I wouldn't worry about Cruz though. The honor of losing the 2016 election is going to go to Jeb because it's "his turn". Cruz is probably going to end up being a successful talk show host.

The party of stupid can do no better because their playbook is 30 years out of date and paper thin.

I hope he does. I think it’s a completely unnecessary meddling in the labor market to influence something the market can fix by itself.

Absent any ill advised government action, this “shortage” will increase wages offered to STEM types, drawing more people into those fields. (And thereby eliminating the shortage)

Importing STEM types artificially reduces that demand, reducing wage potential and recruitment opportunities in perpetuity.

RE:”I am trying to work a job and freep at the same time. I have to work my ass off so some FOB doesn’t under cut me.”

Well since you put it that way,
I have my own reservations about the massive influx of legal immigrants to this area in Maryland that I live.

It seems very Balkan-ized, they are coming here in such great numbers that they don't seem to see the need to assimilate and socialize.

Much different than when I moved here.
