The problem with these plane vs car safe stats is they compare flying vs all drivers, when in reality there are many things you can do or not do in a car that greatly increases your odds of not only surviving but not getting into a crash in the 1st place. While flying, there's nothing you can do to make your flight any safer.
For example most auto accident deaths occur when the driver is either drunk, not wearing a seat belt, under 25, excessively speeding, talking on cell phone, texting or extremely tired (which causes them to nod off)
If you aren't doing or are any of those your odds of even getting into a crash are about 900% less.
Also If you are driving during good weather or live in an area that doesn't have lots deer or moose your odds of getting into a crash decrease even less.
So yeah, if you are drunk 18 year old chatting with your friend on a cellphone while driving 75mph in a 45 at 4 in the morning during a heavy downpour, yeah you would be better off on a plane. If you are 35 with your phone off driving only a few mph over the limit at 6 at night, you are pretty safe.
My response.
Everyone wants to die on his own terms, and a plane crash removes that opportunity in a relatively short period of time with an equally short warning.

Main reason is the improved safety features in cars compared to before, such as air bags, etc.
