Starbucks CEO: If You are Anti-Gay Marriage, ‘You can Sell Your Shares’
TPNN ^ | 3/30/15 | Cara Delvecchio

At Starbucks’ annual shareholder’s meeting in Seattle on Wednesday a shareholder complained to Billionaire CEO, Schultz about the fact that Starbucks has lost customers because of its support of gay marriage.

Starbucks supported Washington’s state’s referendum backing gay marriage last year and in response the National Organization for Marriage started a boycott of the company. Tom Stobhar, founder of Corporate Morality Action Center, complained about the company’s support of gay marriage, citing that the company’s support for gay marriage has resulted in boycotts against the company that have cost Starbucks a considerable amount of business.

“In the first full quarter after this boycott was announced, our sales and earning—shall we say politely— were a bit disappointing.” Stobhar said.

This prompted Shultz to engage with Stobhar saying,

“Not every decision is an economic decision. Despite the fact that you recite statistics that are narrow in time, we did provide a 38% shareholder return over the last year. I don’t know how many things you invest in, but I would suspect not many things, companies, products, investments have returned 38% over the last 12 months. Having said that, it is not an economic decision to me. The lens in which we are making that decision is through the lens of our people. We employ over 200,000 people in this company, and we want to embrace diversity—of all kinds. If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher return than the 38% you got last year, it’s a free country “You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy in another company. Thank you very much.”

To which, the crowd erupted in applause. This shareholders crowd might have been pleased with Starbucks decisions but other groups are very annoyed. Websites like “DumpStarbucks.com” and manny others have popped up who aim to boycott the company as long is it remains opposed to Biblical marriage. Dump Starbucks has a petition that has over 49,000 signatures against Starbucks. Many shareholders are taking Schutlz’s advice and are indeed selling their shares.

"...it's a free country..." Oh, really Tommy Boy? Tell that to those devout Christians who faced drippling litigation because they dared to let their deeply held beliefs prevent them from accommodating homosexual weddings. You couldn't pay me to drink that Panther Wizz they call coffee. There's plenty of Cuban-owned Mom and pop bodegas around Tampa that serve better tasting coffee at more reasonable prices, and without the phony, holier-than-thou "hip", "with it" progressive aura that Starbucks tries to evoke. Besides, given the progressive corporate culture at Starschmucks, wouldn't they encourage people to BUY LOCALLY? They have learned nothing from the let's about race fiasco, have they?

I do not patronize Starbucks and this plus the Race Together idiocy tells me that I have made the right decision to avoid the joint.

Well, he is in a unique position - almost all of his stock holders are liberals so he has no worries. That’s okay though as that is how Democracy should work, the only problem is that these same Progressives want to shut down others that do not think as they do...that is a problem!

It’s clear to me that the progressives in this country just don’t understand and want to feed off the patriots that started this country. What don’t they get, the progressives,? Christians and free marketeers risk everything by coming to AMERICA. Now Starbucks, Liberals, Lesbians and Gays want us to change so they can dictate. I say NO, go find you own sacrifice and move on, further more why the difference of Gays and Lesbians, are not they the same thing? Deviants.

I never understood how starbuck got so big and so popular. I’ve tried them out a few years ago and thought the taste of normal and the cost was expensive, usually 50%+ more than mom/pop stores

Over-roasted.

Tastes burnt, like charcoal.

Nasty on the digestion. Plus the taste of charcoal - ummm. [barf].

Undoubtedly lets them mix pretty much any beans into the roasting blend.

Burnt tastes like burnt; the original taste of the bean is gone.

Starbucks = 100% pure marketing, with a 100% garbage product.

Agree about wondering why but I think that Apple and Starbucks have become a Progressive brand that attracts a small percentage of folks but they are loyal to the brand.

These things have sociological connections that most of us can not discern - unless Liberal or Progressive I guess...strange connection these folks have...

I don’t drink coffee because of my blood pressure so I can’t boycott them - but I often buy Starbucks gift cards as birthday gifts - that will never happen again.

If all logical people boycotted their stores and/or gift cards, Starbucks would be out of business.

Never occurred to me that they hadn’t learned from their lets talk about race nonsense. For this CEO to taunt his stock holders the next week, I’m thinkin’ he wants to join that CEO on food stamps who attacked Chick Fil A.

I’ve been a fan of Apple and Steve Jobs, but ever since Tim Cook took over, I’ve become less so.

I understand the confusion about how-the-heck Starbucks became so popular. Here’s my theory and guess. I remember talking with friends in 1980 about how Los Angeles lacks cool places to hang out. There were bars for older people and pinball game shops for young people. But there was nothing cool for young people. We tried visiting the Christian Science reading rooms in Santa Monica but discovered they were lame and uncool after 20 minutes. Then came along Mr. Baldwin who learned from Mr. Peet and who sold to Mr. Schulz in 1984. Now there are many fun and cool Starbucks places for young people to hang out.

Too bad Mr. Schulz lacks faith in the Lord. He needs to learn a simple rule: don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Don’t take for granted American, Christianity and strong families.

Nice way to ruin your company.

Not anti=gay so much. Just stop demanding I will accept it.

I won’t.

Shut up about your private life.

You won’t be losing any money from me anyway. I paid for one coffee once.

Mr. “Billionaire CEO, Schultz” can go screw himself ... In fact, yes, Mr. Schultz, we’ll sell our shares - and use the cash to invest in your competition ... or perhaps by more arms ... You see, jackass ... the touchy reprobates make up 2-3 percent of the population; and, even in adding to that figure their diabolically deceived enablers, I doubt you can gain enough outside that vociferous little clique to support your debauched company indefinitely, once the SHTF ... The rumblings within the silent majority are beginning to openly discuss civil war ... Wonder how much your shares will be worth once the bullets begin to fly?
