The co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 appears to have researched suicide methods and cockpit door security in the days before he flew the plane into the French Alps, killing 150 people, German prosecutors said Thursday.

Duesseldorf prosecutors said investigators found a tablet computer at co-pilot Andreas Lubitz's apartment in Duesseldorf and were able to reconstruct his computer searches from March 16 to March 23.

Guess that eliminates the spontaneous act theory.

Kind of spooky that they can determine what have you been searching for in the past week.

I don’t understand how someone thinks his own sadness justifies taking the lives of other innocent people.

You can be depressed without being sad and men tend to be angery

The co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 appears to have researched suicide methods...

Really? And he ended up deciding that taking a couple of hundred other people with him was his best option?

I suppose we could interpret this as further evidence of the folly of strict anti-gun laws...

Plus, don't they have any cliffs, high bridges or tall buildings in his country?

what I find most surprising is that a 28 year old was flying this airplane

don’t you need years and years of experience?

Aren’t most commercial pilots former military?

“don’t you need years and years of experience?”

No. He was the co-pilot on a cut-rate airline.

“Aren’t most commercial pilots former military?”

I don’t think Germany has that many former military pilots.

No ‘reporters’ seem to have researched his prior experience. Don’t know why.

It's not just the government who can do this. It's just about everybody!

Last week I looked up a part for a Sears vacuum cleaner. What a mistake. I have been flooded with pop-ups for vacuum cleaner parts.

Here on FR a while ago, a freeper used the term 'nitpicking' in an email. Soon after he got a bunch of pop-ups for medicine to treat lice. LOL

I thought 28 was a little young, as well.

Won’t work on the pathological.

Catch more with mandatory random drug and alcohol testing.

Develop a better lie detector then. The CIA has better lie detectors- pupil dilation, voice stress, body language. They are working on this for surveillance videos. Hell, if they can scan brain wave patterns for various emotions, they can research lie triggers. It’s a problem that needs to be solved and we have the technology to begin the process.

Worldwide...the airline industry has used up all of the military-background pilots, and it’s now using third-tier folks with minimum background but certifications.

If you look at military pilots thinking about getting out...you have to agree to long-haul trips to get into any real money....this means you are gone from the house for roughly twenty days out of the month.

Lubitz was making around the equivalent of $45,000 a year as a junior pilot for the short-haul trips. Toss in German taxes and being single....he was only taking home half of the pay.

Surely, you are joking. They have his computer. If it's not wiped, his browser history is waiting to be retrieved. And why bother to wipe it, if he's going to kill himself?

All they had to do was display his browser history (easily available in the menus). You don't need the NSA for that!
