The poor are treated like criminals everywhere, even at the grocery store

Possibly workfare and perhaps a incremental decrease of benefits over a relatively short to moderate amount of time would work?
The problem is there will always be a politician willing to extend or increase benefits in exchange for votes.
If you eliminate one program they will just replace it with another.
Emotional blackmail works! A long with a covert implied message that you will give people of entitlement their money or they will commit crimes in order to maintain a certain lifestyle.
I would be willing to take the chance and cut off 70-90% of the recipients off the dole.
Have work programs ready. Have churches on standby for the influx of government assisted lost souls.
Yep, sounds good.

Well, it was God that deserved, and got, the thanks for my daily bread when it was dealt in that fashion. It taught me not that the taxpayer was wonderful but that God was wonderful. I never had to wear a barrel.

Should everyone on benefits hold a ticker tape parade (supplies bought at Dollar Tree to be sure) to the other former taxpayers? I sometimes get a feeling that nothing less would be accepted, because everyone, not just the welfare set, is selfish. It just so happens that the welfare set is both selfish and poor.

Or to put it another way, if those who pay taxes feel stiffed for thanks and taken for granted as a doormat, imagine how God feels.

There should be encouraged more emphasis on church charity and less on Caesar charity. Somewhere I think I still have a copy of the perfidious letter that FDR sent to a former pastor of a church I visited while living more closely from hand to mouth... ah how wonderful this Social Security scheme is... well guess what, security is to be found in God and at best Caesar is only one passing medium for the means.

I could make an astounding proposal but if it was accepted it would be even more astounding: Tax credits (up to the amount of taxes otherwise due in a tax accounting period), not just deductions, for eleemosynary activities. The charity is going to do it more efficiently than Caesar will, so why not let the charity do it.

“If they would clean up welfare and the EBT and the free lunches and the..., and on and on it goes... most of us wouldn’t complain.

There are clearly many abuses going on.”

Back in 2006, I was at a Ralph’s market in Malibu, and a chick bought a 100+ dollar log of filet mignon on food stamps. She got into her 3-4 year old, top-of-the-line Mercedes Benz, and left......

Chick had good taste.

I don’t they should hold a ticker-tape parade.....but don’t waste the money, rub it in people’s face and then demand more. -That would be a good start.

That’s true. I would say in response that even though what you say is true, the politicians that set this up abused the system, and those who use it abuse it too.

If you have the ability to do something wrong and not be taken to task for it, it’s still wrong.

” I cringe when I read things like that.”

I could give you many stories similar to this one. I remembered it above others, because it was Malibu, and she drove away in a $50,000 car. The illegals have this down to a science.

“Who are these people, and what makes them think that what we eat is their business? “

Because we are paying the tab. That’s why.

My letter to the Editor, published in the Waco Tribune:

It seems that Jeanine Grant Lister, author of the Friday column “Why we so hate poor people,” is not totally satisfied with the Nanny State Socialism teat that she has apparently suckled on for most of her life. Like a petulant teen who can’t understand why she has to take out the garbage and do the dishes to get her allowance, she wants us to fork over our hard-earned money, no questions asked, so she can decide how to spend it.

It’s derided as a tired cliché, but the “safety net” is easy to turn into a hammock. We see examples all around us. Women being welfare brood mares, raising generations who have no concept of self-reliance, responsibility or work ethic. Beating the system is apparently easy, as I see most EBT card users pushing two carts, one filled with what I bought, the other filled with what they bought. Follow these people to the parking lot sometime. They almost always are in command of a newer vehicle than my 12-year-old truck, often with custom wheels, tires and aftermarket stereos that shake the ground.

Yes, Jeanine, if I had my way, you wouldn’t have an EBT card. You would go to a Gubbmint warehouse staffed by welfare recipients and get your surplus rice, beans, cheese and milk. Many of us paying your way were raised on the same foodstuffs; they were just paid for by our parents. Liberals don’t love the poor, they love having people poor. The Socialist Nanny State is an ongoing dress rehearsal for how liberals see Utopia. Don’t worry, don’t work, don’t even think. Just trust us to take care of you as long as you jump through our hoops and vote Democrat. Conservatives don’t hate poor people, they hate people being poor. They know that a person properly motivated and educated can rise out of adversity and accomplish many things for themselves, their children and society.

We have made it too easy to be poor, removing the need for basic human needs as an incentive to work, seek work and survive. Liberals call it compassion. I call it slavery.
