Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said if the framework of President Barack Obama’s deal with Iran stays as is, it will spark a nuclear arms race in the Middle East starting with Sunni-majority Saudi Arabia already engaged in battle in Yemen against the Shia Iran-backed Houthi militants.

Nuke is like global 2nd amendment. Once you have nukes, no other country will invade you in a traditional sense. It does not make sense not to go nuclear.
Intended consequences.
Nukes and the mad principal do not prevent invasion or attack in the middle east. They did not stop Saddam from launching scuds at Israel during Gulf War 1. The Israeli’s had to assume the scuds were WMD since Saddam had tons of chemical and biological components back then. So anyone who promotes a nuclear arms race there, should be guilty of crimes against humanity. Obama will go down in history as the worst and most dangerous terrorist leader ever for not demanding the destruction of Iran’s centrifuges.

You just destroyed your own argument. Iraq did NOT use WMD against Israel precisely because Israel could nuke Iraq.
Let’s face it — once you are nuclear, you only get into skirmishes and not a full blown invasion. Only stupid countries (Ukraine anyone?) give up their nukes.
No he didn’t. The U.S. was doing everything it could to convince Israel not to get into the fray, even after the scud hits (conventional munitions “that” time). No one knew what those scuds were loaded with and companies of Marines were re-tasked to hunt scud platforms as their highest priority, dressed in FULL MOP gear for days on end. The chem/bio threat was very real. Had Israel responded with nukes there would be NO middle east today and very high casualties on all sides as everything would have been let loose (nuke, chem, bio; everything).
You miss the point. Israel should have retaliated with nukes the instant they saw scuds heading their way. Their restraint, was based solely on not destroying the massive coalition Bush had assembled. Unfortunately, that restraint has led to thousands of smaller missiles being fired at Israel from its western enemies. Israel broke the nuclear deterrent principal to please the US coalition. Now they have formed their own coalition and they do not intend to cave to American stupidity. That Bush coalition ended up falling apart quickly. Do you think Israel will wait for the mushroom clouds when Iran fires missiles ?

Desperate scuds to save face(after an embarassing defeat) is NOT close to an invasion. My post was about how possessing nuclear weapons deter full-on invasion, not a solution to every little skirmish between belligerents!
No one wants to invade you after you have been nuked. What’s the point. Saddam had dozens of scuds deployed along his western frontier. They were there to stop an invasion of Iraq by the coalition. Israel was the ransom. And if you do not think enemies are trying to invade Israel, then are not paying attention. They are building massive tunnels networks even.
