Wait a minute. When water from the ocean evaporates to make clouds and rain, where does the salt go then? Why is this a problem?

The intake, where ocean water first enters the desalination system, is about half a mile off the beach. Once it gets to the plant, the water flows through gravel and sand filters and finally, when all the debris is gone, into the reverse osmosis membranes — salt removers.

Huh? But since 1992, shouldn't there have been enough global warming to where the intake is farther under the ocean, not farther up the beach? I would assume the intake was originally built in the ocean, which means sea levels are lower now than they were...?

In 1977, I made sales calls to California. There was a severe drought then as well. Restaurants used to bring a glass of water to everyone when they were seated. California restaurants stopped this tradition. Never been so thirsty in my life, even though I hardly ever drank the water before they quit automatically serving it.

Hotels also gave out instructions on how to shave, brush your teeth, bathe and use the toilet when you checked in.
