Conservatives target McCain's re-election bid
American Thinker ^ | April 8, 2015 | Rick Moran

John McCain will be an 80-year-old senator if he wins re-election to a sixth term. But the octogenarian senator has far more to deal with than questions about his age.

Several conservative PACs have already targeted McCain for defeat, notably the Senate Conservative Fund and the Club for Growth. With the right sharpening its knives to bring him down, the question of his survival in a Republican primary can't be dismissed.

The Hill:

“There are few Republicans who have betrayed our conservative principles more than John McCain,” SCF President Ken Cuccinelli said in an email to supporters Tuesday of the party's 2008 nominee for president.

“John McCain lost his way a long time ago and it's time to replace him with a strong conservative leader who will support and defend the Constitution.”

Cuccinelli’s email links to a petition to replace McCain, which, as of 2 p.m. ET, has 457 signatures. He slams McCain for high-profile instances where he crossed the aisle, including helping to forge the bipartisan Senate immigration bill, as well as voting for various fiscal cliff and debt limit deals.

McCain is set to announce his decision to run again during a speech at an Arizona Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Phoenix.

Conservatives believe there is far more to complain about with McCain than his stance on immigration. He has demonstrated overt hostility to the right since his defeat in 2008. And along with South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham, he has frequently been at odds with conservatives over judges, administration nominees, and budget issues.

He beat back a strong primary challenge in 2010 from Rep. J.D. Hayworth while cruising to victory in the general election.

Will he be as lucky this time?

Conservatives would have been better off changing the “open primary system” in AZ, as that system has allowed McCain to win over and over
again.

Until that open primary system is changed, don’t hold your breath about
beating McCain.

Should’ve been done years ago.

I’ll say this. If Governor Palin campaigns for McCain, she’s dead to me. I can understand her doing this in 2010, but not anymore.

Should be easy to defeat him since his own state’s republican party censured him. But he’ll pull out every stop to keep winning. McCain is like a roach and won’t quit. Part of the D.C. vermin.

She’s paid her (legitimate) debt to him by her 2010 endorsement; she owes him nothing more. Actually, since he has subsequently so often betrayed the constitutional conservative principles that Sarah believe in, she should endorse his main primary opponent should that opponent have core conservative beliefs.

John McCain has helped to do much damage to our Republic...he needs to be retired so his harmful efforts are eliminated or, at least, weakened.

AZ has an “open primary system” which allow cross over voting in primaries.

Until that system is changed by AZ conservatives, expect the same results.

I think that it is a “semi-open” primary system where registered independents can choose which, if any, party’s primary they wish to participate in. But it’s still certainly not ideal and can lead to corruption (a la Mississippi 2014).

Any democrat voter can register as an independent in AZ.

And that is the reason McCain keeps winning the GOP primary.

Until that primary is closed to only GOP voters, expect the same outcome
wither it is McCain or another AZ GOP RINO.

At odds over judges?!?! McCain ensured libtard activists judges have a strangle hold on the mid level federal benches by knifing Sen. Bill Frist in the back with his Gang of 14. I will never forget or forgive him for that! The only time in my entire lifetime we had a chance to push the left back. Defeat them in a significant battle! But McCain knifed us in the back. The best conservative running against McCain gets my vote. If no one runs I will vote for myself. Damn him, what he did to America is worse than Pearl Harbor ever was.
