California Officially Bans Hunters From Using Lead Bullets
The Daily Caller ^ | 9:21 PM 04/09/2015 | The Daily Caller

Environmental activists cheered the California Fish and Game Commission’s decision to adopt regulations banning the use of lead ammunition for hunting throughout the Golden State.

In a unanimous vote, the Commission opted to phase out lead bullets, which hunters groups are calling a de-facto ban on hunting in the state. Environmentalists, on the other hand, are saying these regulations will save California Condors and Golden Eagles from getting lead poisoning.

[....]

But conflicting federal and state regulations over non-lead ammo only bolster critics’ claims that the lead bullet ban is a de-facto ban on hunting. The federal government is preventing companies from making non-lead bullets, but California won’t allow hunters to use lead ammo.

It looks like a Catch-22 for hunters.

“I bet every last one of those “researchers” are Obama voters. Sorry, but I don’t trust their research any further than I can spit.”

You may be correct, but someone would have to do the scientific experiment necessary to demonstrate it.

What kind of ammunition will not kill the carrion eating condors?

The solubility of lead is an important factor in determining the relative bioavailability of lead that has been ingested by wildlife. Fortunately, wildlife does not ingest spent lead bullets that are lying on the ground. Although studies have shown that about 3% of doves may ingest a few lead shot pellets incidental to feeding, other studies have indicated that such incidentally ingested pellets are rapidly passed out of the digestive tract without resulting in poisoning.

Even in experiments where lead is deliberately fed repeatedly to wildlife with food, it has been shown that it is very difficult to poison the animals. This lack of bioavailablity of metallic lead is attributed to the combination of metallic lead’s insolubility as well as the buffering of the stomach acid with food and the rapid passage of the food bolus out of the stomach into the neutral intestinal tract.

Does this mean we get to switch to depleted uranium ammo?

I guess it's time. I also suspect we could make 5.56 or 7.62 PGM with modern technology, heheh. Say composite with a rocket sustainer. muzzle velocity all the way to the target...

These EPA Nazis in CA are brilliant. Ban lead ammo, eliminate the effectiveness of ALL guns.

Why didn't Baraq Hussein 0bama (mmm mmm mmm) think of that?

Oh, wait...

Evidently libs are concerned with poor shooters who only “wing” the bird.

Libs are concerned that someone might own a gun, have ammo for it, and knows how to use it. The horror!
