This station will most probably fill the hole in its schedule with another conservative or libertarian host. Another station in the market will pick up Limbaugh. The net result is a win for the contra-liberal point of view.
Our talk station pulled the same stunt a few years ago. They dumped Rush in favor of Clark Howard. The backlash was so strong they ended up crawling back to Rush.
Not an expert on radio advertising, but doesn't the value of the time you sell dependent on your market share? If their market share drops enough due to pissed off listeners tuning them out does it matter if they get a different advertiser? Long view or just plain wrong view?
“Wonder what sort of audience they expect to have when competing against Rush during those three mid-day hours?”
That would be the Tom Dashel show.
Not like the Clear Channel that hired Tom Daschle's son as political director who fired Quinn & Rose and dumped Beck, Rush and Hannity for canned country pop.
I am sure that Emmis is correct and will soar just like Air America. Emmis; sounds like that vomit pan at the Doc’s office.
Since it's an FM station, there is a very good chance that there's a sister AM station also airing Rush in that area.
Same thing happened here in Detroit when WJR 760 AM dropped the two hour Hannity program and moved up Michael Savage from a later time slot.
While Savage bragged about taking over S.E. Michigan with that move, he failed to mention that Hannity simply moved to the Patriot network which has two stations, 1400 AM and 92.7 FM for the three hour time slot of 3:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m.......LOL!
and Jeffrey Smulyan has given LOTS of money to democrats over the years. See for yourself...

Take your meds. You sound paranoid. The "shutdown" 'aint gonna happen. Let's wait to hear if Rush has a take on it.
I knew talk shows had a lot of ads, but I didn’t know how much until today. In talking about the leukemia fund-raiser on Friday, Rush said his 3 hour show has only 1 3/4 hours of talk — the rest is ads.
Indiana has a host of radio stations that carry Rush on both AM and FM........Any listener to WIBC-FM simply has to switch to the AM dial to find a Rush station.........
It could very well be that WIBC couldn't corner the market with Rush due to competing AM stations so they simply switched their format...........
Happens all the time
1210AM in Philly dropped Rush a few years back - immediately he was picked up on a local FM station and stayed there for about one year - until he was taken back on 1210 - where he still is heard today......
He won't since there's likely a competing AM station which also airs Rush in that area..........His fans will merely tune in to the other station......
“Open up the station to more advertising opportunities?”
Have fun with a marginal audience. If no one is listening to the replacement show, what good is advertising? This will backfire on WIBC ...Rush listeners can get live streams from many sources.
why the hell would I have to wait for someone to tell me what to think?
If you don’t think opposing views have been and will be shutting down then I suggest you get of the meds right.
Here’s the guy that owns the station:

Thanks, no surprise there. Hopefully, he will have less money to donate to Dems in the future.
Typical liberal Jewish Democrat.
Hey; WBIC hasn’t any body told you that Lib/Prog/Commie/Dem bastards are the cheapest most tight assed sub-humans on earth?
Except with other peoples money.
LOL, you really think they’re worried about that when they are taking orders to squelch his voice?
