Great voice, and great song.

And Michael Bolton’s version still bites.

Would a song with these lyrics be allowed in today’s hyper-sensitive, homofascist climate?

RIP Mr. Sledge.

Of course it would. That song was/is an anthem for mixed race sexual relations. The woman he is singing about is white. The greatest prize a black man can have is a white bitch to do. And white women view black men as the ultimate sexual partner. Soon they will be praising the sexual superiority of Arab and ISIS men. Women are craven disloyal traitors who bow down before their conquerors in every population and in every society down through the ages. Starting with Eve.

I wondered what became of him recently. We are losing legends. I saw him on a old SNL from 1986 with Bill Murray Hosting recently.

The woman he is singing about is white.

How do you figure?

Watched the lyric version on Youtube, and I can't see any indication of this. The shtick seems to be that a man is willing to debase himself to any extent to maintain his obsession. I don't see the race angle.

My wife and I were shocked this morning, hearing the local (Macon, GA) news. With so much to say about this man, what did they feature?

That when Sledge moved to Macon, he bought a home in a predominantly white neighborhood, and the home burned to the ground under suspicious circumstances before he could move in.

I watched this documentary film on Netflix a couple of months back. Very interesting to watch. Percy was one of the earliest success stories of the Mussel Shoals sound...

“I wondered what became of him recently. We are losing legends”

He was still touring until last year, when he was diagnosed with liver cancer.
