Obama, Netanyahu mark Holocaust Remembrance Day in different ways

President Obama marked Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday, calling it a time to “forcefully condemn” anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry.

“Today, with heavy hearts, we remember the six million Jews and the millions of other victims of Nazi brutality who were murdered during the Holocaust,” Obama said.

“It is incumbent upon us to make real those timeless words, 'Never forget. Never again,’” he added.

Obama’s remarks come on Yom HaShoah, the Jewish holiday commemorating the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. It is a significant national holiday in Israel; every year air raid sirens sound around the country and people stop what they are doing and stand for a moment of silence.

They also follow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks criticizing the Obama administration’s nuclear talks with Iran. Netanyahu compared today’s western leaders to those in the 1930s who negotiated with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Netanyahu made the comments during a ceremony marking Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday.

Netanyahu argued that the U.S. and its allies were rushing into a dangerous pact with Iran concerning its atomic energy program. Their haste, he added, mirrored mistakes Europe made when dealing with Nazi Germany during the late 1930s and early 1940s.

“Ahead of World War II, the world attempted to appease the Nazis,” he said. “They wanted quiet at any price, and the terrible price did come.

Netanyahu added that the West had appeared “comatose” and “gripped by delusion” during its negotiations with Tehran in Lausanne, Switzerland over the last 18 months.

Their actions there recalled similar mistakes world powers made negotiating with Hitler, he added.

“The democratic states made a terrible mistake,” Netanyahu said of the Nazi era, “and they’re making a terrible mistake now.”

Relations between the Netanyahu and Obama governments are tense over the Iran talks, with the White House and Israeli embassy to the United States recently battling over Twitter.

Obama has said the Iran nuclear deal is the best way to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and has challenged Netanyahu to come up with a better alternative.

"The prime minister of Israel is deeply opposed to it. I think he’s made that very clear," Obama said last Saturday in Panama. "I have repeatedly asked, what is the alternative that you present that you think makes it less likely for Iran to get a nuclear weapon, and I have yet to obtain a good answer on that that."

Let me guess. Obama did a little dance and then bemoaned that Jews got away. He then gleefully said he had real final solution cooked up with Iran.

As always, King Barry offers only lip service.

But on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Barry was more interested in visiting Saudi Arabia and bowing down to the new Saudi king. He cut his trip to India short by a day for his Saudi visit, which just happened to be the same day as the ceremonies at Auschwitz.

His American grandfather could have been in a US army unit that helped liberate one of the concentration camps in western Germany. That Obama said it was Auschwitz may just reflect his historical ignorance (since Auschwitz is in Poland and was liberated by the Red Army), rather than a deliberate lie.

Sometimes he is just indifferent to the truth, sometimes he is deliberately lying...it's all the same to him, since he doesn't care about the truth and neither does the media.

Or something like this:

Netanyahu remembered and prayed for the souls of the half of European Jewry exterminated, but did not forget the other millions who were not Jews that died as well in the camps.

Obama bemoaned that the Germans left the job only half finished and reminisced about the good old days. “Rudolf Hoss seemed to be a good old fellow and Amon Goeth, now there’s my type of guy! I could sit in a beer garden and knock back a few with him!”

Hmmm, let me be the Commander in Chief for 10 minutes and I could provide an answer. Might need lead suits and Geiger counters to go anywhere near Iran for a number of years, though. . . .
