You know the old saying: You can fly the candidate into Tuzla with her daughter under a hail of non-existent sniper fire, but you can’t take the Tuzla out of the candidate. Perhaps sensing that she needs a resumé enhancement, Hillary Clinton returned to fabulism on the campaign trail eight years after the Tuzla Dash, telling Iowans that all of her grandparents came to the US as immigrants. As BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski painstakingly details, she’s only 25% correct. Kaczynski picked up on this part of her stump speech about just plain folks working, emphasis mine:
We are turning down people who really want to work. I mean they are here to work And a lot of them now have children who are American citizens, and they are doing the best they can to try to make a good life for themselves and their families. And you know, I think if we were to just go around this room, there are a lot of immigrant stories. All my grandparents, you know, came over here and you know my grandfather went to work in lace mill in Scranton, Pennsylvania and worked there until he retired at 65. He started there when he was a teenager and just kept going. So I sit here and I think well youre talking about the second, third generation. Thats me, thats you. And we are saying to all these other people who want the same dreams and the same aspirations and the willingness to work hard just like our families did that no, were not going to make it easy for you, were not going to make it legal for you. And I just think thats such a short term, unfortunate outcome for us and well as for them.
I’d bet there would be a lot of immigrant stories, and … this would be one of the less-honest ones. Only one of Hillary’s grandparents emigrated to the US; the other three were born in America. Kaczynski produces detailed census records and a draft card to make his case, but it’s not exactly a state secret:
An article in the Irish-America by an ancestry researcher sent to BuzzFeed News by the Clinton campaign also noted Hannah Jones was born in Scranton.
All of the Clintons grandparents were born in the United States, with the exception of Hugh, Megan Smolenyak, the articles researcher said. Smolenyak noted seven of Clintons eight great-grandparents were immigrants
Donnie Radcliffe, the Washington Post reporter who chronicled first ladies and wrote a biography of Hillary Clinton tells a similar ancestry, tracing only Hugh Rodham Sr. as foreign-born.
I know most New Yorkers can't.
Of course they were immigrants. Didn’t they immigrate from Nepal after climbing Mt. Everest?
Mrs. Clinton is a Howell.
“Clintons maternal grandmother, Della Howell (previously Murray) was born in Illinois in 1902 according to records. She married Edwin Howell (born 1887 in Illinois) “
Mrs. Thurston Howell III?
No need to wonder — Just look at the 2008 and 2012 election results.
I think the American electorate doesn’t care anymore. The stress of the last 6-7 years has taken it’s toll......most Americans just believe whatever they hear on TV. And the Dems are fast at work manipulating the Internet so that the Truth will no longer be able to get out there. I read a story on FR yesterday where Larry Kramer (Gay AIDS activist and playwright) said outright in a CBS interview, that Abraham Lincoln was gay and Booth was his spurned gay lover. Now, naive and stressed people will hear that and think ‘I didn’t realize Lincoln was gay’. Never mind the fact IT’S A LIE. Truth has taken a serious hit in this country. I hope we can someday recover and find our way back to the American Dream.
Well played!
Throw back the little ones.
Don’t let stuff like this distract.
I checked her ancestors out the other day..
I wanted to find out if she could join the DAR..
I was surprised to find her family don’t go that far back ..
While Obama has Loyalist ancestors...yes the girls cant join DAR...Hillary bearly gets back to the 19th Century..
Meanwhile I cant join the Mayflower Society either...but I can join the Winthrop Society..and the Holland Society several times over....whoops that’s just men..
I chalk it up to what, when we were kids adults called “hardening of the arteries” or “confusion” on the part of the seniors. Today, its called Alzheimers or dementia.
The distancing from the people who created this nation, grows, now they campaign on NOT having deep roots in America.
I read a really disgusting piece yesterday where they were “proving” how much younger Hillary will be than Reagan when sworn in in 2017.
It was based on the improvement in life expectancy since 1980 and the longer female lifespan.
Absolute journ-0-list horsesh!t.
I’m surprised Hillary hasn’t manufactured some vague Black ancestors like Elizabeth Warren did for her phony Native American roots.
2 months before her suicide with Adolph in the infamous Berlin bunker, Eva Braun gave birth to little "Hildegard" Shickelgruber and arranged to have the baby smuggled across Allied lines to France.
In Marseilles, France, the child was delivered to a kind-hearted ship's captain. Upon landing in New Orleans, the captain personally carried the infant to the home of Eva's second cousin, Dorte Dittlemann, in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
The rest, as they say, is history!
