I was 19, she was 20, it was 1972. We starteds a trip together destination was undecided. We hitchhiked from Long Beach, California, to Fairbanks, Alaska, then to Minneapolis, Minnesota and back.
She sang this song to me to wake me up that first day, and many days thereafter.
On occasions she still sings it to me, and we both smile. We are celebrating our 40th in September.
Why don't you get up, get up, get out of bed, cheer up
Live, love, laugh and be happy
What if I were blue, now I'm walking through fields of flowers
Rain may glisten but still I listen for hours and hours
I'm just a kid again, doing what I did again, singing a song
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob, bobbin'
When the red, red robin comes bob, bob, bobbin' along
Along, along, along, along, along.
Oh sniff! I love this story & sentiment Michael. Wishing you 40 more!! *Hugs*
