IBM Warns Louisiana Over 'Religious Freedom' Bill

By Charles Riley IBM has sent a letter to the governor of Louisiana warning that a pending religious freedom bill would create a hostile environment for the tech company's employees.

"A bill that legally protects discrimination based on same-sex marriage status will create a hostile environment for our current and prospective employees, and is antithetical to our company's values," IBM vice president James Driesse wrote in a letter to Gov. Bobby Jindal.

"IBM will find it much harder to attract talent to Louisiana if this bill is passed and enacted into law," Driesse said. The letter asks Jindal to work with the state legislature to "ensure this legislation is not discriminatory." IBM has made significant investments in Louisiana, including a technology services delivery center in Baton Rouge.

The letter is the latest warning from corporate America to states that are considering controversial religious freedom laws. In Indiana and Arkansas, an intense backlash has already forced lawmakers to make revisions.

Did IBM suddenly enter the wedding business? Catering? Flowers? Band? Bakery?

If these large corporations turned pro-American again, I might listen to them, otherwise I don’t care what they think.

controversial religious freedom laws

The qualifier is needed because it would make no sense to oppose religious freedom, a basic American value, without first labeling it controversial and a disturber of the peace.

All the corporate entities and public organizations are going this way. The only ones who are not are just certain privately held companies ... who have owners who want to take a stand on the issue through their company.

It’s been a long time in arriving to this point, so if we are to turn it around, it will probably take just as long to fight back the other direction. It will have to be done through winning the majority of the public over, too.

I doubt that. I'm sure that the bill allows liar IBM to hire whomever they please, and ultimately to have the anti-discrimination policy that it chooses.

Die, corporate scum.

States should tell these homosexual bullies to get out of their states. Let them pay the taxes in NY and CA, instead of going to low tax states and trying to force the legislators there to adopt sexual perversion in the bargain.

It will be impossible to have any computer product or hi-tech device if one doesn’t do business with any of those companies. You’ll have to add Microsoft and Android (Google) to that, too, plus some others.

Is there any major manufacturer of any hi-tech product that doesn’t take that stance?!

It’s like you are a capitalist, and then you see these retarded companies use the benefits of it to rob you of your liberty!

I wish IBM still made computers so I could refuse to buy them.

Better yet if IBM wants to play the politics game perhaps those states should replace IBM products software and services from companies that don’t threaten states who do what they determine is best for their citizens.

Money talks.
