Hang some fishing line here and there.
Spray it with a corrosive.
Paint ball! Aim for the lens.
Send a directional pulse at it.
Jam it.
Control it with a controller.
Chase it back to its owner. Batteries aren’t forever. Neither are tiny tanks of methanol (fuel for remote control toys).

I would not have to prove a thing, because I would not be able to recall exactly WHAT happened to that drone - or even whether there was ever a drone at all.
It is unlikely he would be able to do that for a drone flying as low as the one described in this story. Those things have propellers which rotate very fast, and hovering at what is essentially eye-level is inherently dangerous to anyone near it.
It looks like an invitation to play baseball.
