The majority of the political class, at the behest of the majority of the business class, want to effectively turn our country into mexico, or more likely china.
Mexico has their socialist backed oligarchy, with a few powerful families basically controlling the entire economy, and pushing off all of the dirt poor indians on the gringos in el norte. And then chinese, who have communist enforced oligarchy, with all of industry owned by the government, and the politburo and more equal class get to enjoy the spoils, while picking a few winners to deal with and fool the capitalists in the west.
We know how to make effective changes to those laws. I may not like them, but they are followed and changes go through the normal process.
What we really have problems with is the ILLEGAL immigrants.
There are NO controlling laws by definition. That I want fixed first.
Not everyone cares about your hobby horse of legal immigration, but most all Americans, including my LEGAL neighbor want the illegal immigration stopped.

1965
The national origins quota system was abolished. But still maintained was the principle of numerical restriction by establishing 170,000 Hemispheric and 20,000 per country ceilings and a seven-category preference system (favoring close relatives of U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens, those with needed occupational skills, and refugees) for the Eastern Hemisphere and a separate 120,000 ceiling for the Western Hemisphere.
1976
The 20,000 per-country immigration ceilings and the preference system became applied to Western-Hemisphere countries. The separate Hemispheric ceilings were maintained.
1978
The separate ceilings for Eastern and Western Hemispheric immigration were combined into one world-wide limit of 290,000.
1980
The Refugee Act removed refugees as a preference category and established clear criteria and procedures for their admission. It also reduced the world-wide ceiling for immigrants from 290,000 to 270,000.
1986
The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) was a comprehensive reform effort. It (1) legalized aliens who had resided in the United States in an unlawful status since January 1, 1982, (2) established sanctions prohibiting employers from hiring, recruiting, ar referring for a fee aliens known to be unauthorized to work in the United States, (3) created a new classification of temporary agricultural worker and provided for the legalization of certain such workers; and (4) established a visa waiver pilot program allowing the admission of certain nonimmigrants without visas. Separate legislation stipulated that the status of immigrants whose status was based on a marriage be conditional for two years, and that they must apply for permanent status within 90 days after their second year anniversary.
1989
A bill adjusted from temporary to permanent status certain nonimmigrants who were employed in the United States as registered nurses for at least three years and met established certification standards.
1990
Comprehensive immigration legislation provided for (1) increased total immigration under an overall flexible cap of 675,000 immigrants beginning in fiscal year 1995, preceded by a 700,000 level during fiscal years 1992 through 1994, (2) created separate admission categories for family-sponsored, employment-based, and diversity immigrants, (3) revised all grounds for exclusion and deportation, significantly rewriting the political and ideological grounds and repealing some grounds for exclusion, (4) authorized the Attorney General to grant temporary protected status to undocumented alien nationals of designated countries subject to armed conflict or natural disasters, and designated such status for Salvadorans, (5) revised and established new nonimmigrant admission categories, (6) revised and extended through fiscal year 1994 the Visa Waiver Program, (7) revised naturalization authority and requirements, and (8) revised enforcement activities.
I am worried by the legal immigrants who are also gaming the system and worse yet, can vote legally.
Table 6 is why these Third Worlders are telling Uncle Sap that they are refugees, when they are parasites sucking the Bucks out of our ridiculous welfare system. Anything to get them from the welfare rolls to the Democrat voter rolls.

There are some states that have voter ID laws overturned. Most of those States were party to the Consent Decree by the DOJ.

So why aren't those changes being made? Do you support reduced legal immigration from the current 1.1 million a year? Who is speaking out in Congress about reducing legal immigration except for a handful of Reps led by Jeff Sessions? Each year that passes means another 1.1 million enter this country changing the demographics of the country forever. Conservatism will be strangulated. We are importing hundreds of thousands of future Dem voters every year. This has electoral consequences now and in the future.
What we really have problems with is the ILLEGAL immigrants.

The numbers of legal immigrants are three times those of the lawbreakers. They are having a major impact on our economy, demographics, and welfare system. CA has the demographics America will have in 2050.

You are part of the problem because you fail to understand the massive impact legal immigration is having on this country. It has to become an acceptable subject for discussion in public fora like it is in the UK and the rest of Europe. This fixation with illegal aliens misses the larger issue of immigration. We could stop illegal immigration tomorrow and the devastating impact of legal immigration will continue It is far more insidious because it is legal and most Americans have been brainwashed (it is changing) to believe that legal immigration is an unalloyed good.
The laws are being fought by the Dems and the DOJ. And what good are the laws if the people on the ground are not enforcing them? Voter fraud exists big time regardless of these laws. I have worked as a poll watcher and election officer. If you think that voter ID laws can stop voter fraud in Detroit, Philadelphia, or any other major urban center, you are sadly mistaken. And now that Obama is issuing the lawbreakers SSN’s and more and more states are issuing them driver’s licenses, the controls in the Voter ID laws are being undermined.
And focusing on legal immigration at this time is completely inappropriate and distracts from illegal immigration.

Both systems are broken, but the only tolerable method for anyone to enter this country is via legal immigration. Without an enforced entry system, this nation is not sovereign for long.
The "legality" of immigration is the LEAST important part of it.
The most important factors are the source population and the quantity.
Bringing in hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis, Egyptians, Somalis and other Muslims each year on completely legal family-reunification visas is a terrible practice, even though these Jihad carriers are going through all the "right" steps and arrive with all their papers in order. Their admission, though totally legal, guarantees the growth of terrorism and other Islamic maladies in our homeland. Similarly, the import of large numbers of Mexicans, Salvadorans, Guatemalans, and Hondurans wreaks havoc on our schools, communities and the Electoral College, whether or not they have a shiny Green Card in their wallet.
On the other hand, the prospect of a million Polish or Irish folks jumping their tourist visas and staying on as illegal aliens bothers me little. They, or at least their kids, will, for the most part, eventually become part of the fabric of American exceptionalism, not grievance-harboring antagonists to it.
Right now, LEGAL immigration isn't as important as ILLEGAL immigration for voters.
But you keep on focusing on inappropriate stuff.

The "Illegal bad /Legal good" mantra GOP candidates spout to soften their (primary-season) rhetoric on immigration is nonsense and needs to go. It's like saying that smoking is safe and healthy as long as the cigarettes are "legal" with tax-stamps.

Thank you for your posts. We need a moratorium on ALL immigration, while working on getting rid of the illegals already here, building the danged fence, getting rid of the anchor baby law, punishing employers of illegals, etc. The media and the libs will be in hysterics, but it MUST be done.

It is the other way around. The GOPe has been using the distraction of illegal immigration and the border to make it seem that they are tough on immigration. In the meantime, they are responding to their corporate paymasters by keeping the flood of legal immigrants going and increasing the size of our guest worker programs. It used to be that we needed these immigrants to do jobs that Americans won't do. Now, we need them to do jobs Americans can't do. The Reps, including Cruz want to increase the number of skilled guest workers who will take jobs from American college graduates who are already saddled with massive student loans. If we had a labor shortage, wages would be going up not down. In fact we are importing hundreds of thosands of legal immigrants without a high school diploma,
Are you sure you are backing Cruz? You sound like a Jeb Bush/Karl Rove Republican. Certainly, your stance on legal immigration is the same. Why would you want to continue importing 1.1 million legal immigrants a year who will vote two to one Dem?
