In a world first, Chinese scientists have reported editing the genomes of human embryos. The results are published in the online journal Protein & Cell and confirm widespread rumors that such experiments had been conductedrumors that sparked a high-profile debate last month about the ethical implications of such work.
In the paper, researchers led by Junjiu Huang, a gene-function researcher at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, tried to head off such concerns by using 'non-viable' embryos, which cannot result in a live birth, that were obtained from local fertility clinics. The team attempted to modify the gene responsible for β-thalassaemia, a potentially fatal blood disorder, using a gene-editing technique known as CRISPR/Cas9. The researchers say that their results reveal serious obstacles to using the method in medical applications.

Still trying to make the perfect Communist man.
is there anything good about this, like curing disease or child birth defects or is it all bad?
... the ability to pronounce the letter "L"
Thats what happens when the givernment OWNS YOUR FETUS’s.. your dog and cats horses pigs and cows.. even your computer..
In communism the givernment even OWNS your IDEAS..
It’s the Matrix.. for real..
How can there be any good in it if it's the Red Chinese doing it?
Genetically modifying human embryos implies that these fellow humans exist for our benefit, for us to do with as we wish. This is totalitarian at its baldest. (It's also the mentality of most progressives, and criminals.)
Hell has plenty of pits for these monsters to be thrown into.
That’s great!
Then there will be the bad applications that will scare the dickens out of the general population, but only after it's too late to put the genie back in the bottle.
Only in China - where communist materialism still rules.
did you know my cousin had Thalassemia from a previous post?
nope
I’m a little bugged out.
I have no doubt. Is the condition prevalent in other cousins/siblings?
A bunch of people have the trait but both have to have it for it to be beta, the worst kind. She has that. But she has done miraculously. But she has been in and out of the hospital. I think she’s missing the spleen (is that possible) appendix, gall bladder, get fevers, weak, bones getting brittle. And there’s the pump seven hours a night forever to clean out iron. My aunt told my other she is ALWAYS scared. She went to the hospital two weeks ago because she thought she was having a heart attack but everything came back good. she’s 90 pounds of toughness!!!
thanks for asking. I will forward this over to my aunt. I know she would wan t to see it. Amazing that you brought it to attention.
Monsanto will buy the xompany and patents, then they will own any life sprung with that modified gene.
If they micro-size future Chinese citizens, their country could accommodate 5 times the number of people rather than impose the ‘1 child rule’ on couples. They’d have an endless supply of foot soldiers and they’d fit well inside submarines, troop carriers, etc..
