Retired neurosurgeon and likely presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson this weekend endorsed Ohio Sen. Rob Portman's re-election campaign against likely Democratic challenger Ted Strickland.
"I want to see Rob Portman re-elected to the U.S. Senate and encourage Ohio voters to join his campaign and keep the Senate in Republican control," said Carson, a spokesman at the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County's annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Saturday night in Cleveland, according to a party press release.

I agree. Portman is a disgrace.
Imam strongly considering not voting for portman after his shallow and lame change on gay rights. He said because his kid is gay he now believes in gay rights. This is like a minister saying that because his kid in an un beliefer that he too no longer believes in god.

Exactly. Carson is not ready for prime time. We are better off when RINOS loose. If Boehner and McConnell had lost their sests, even to Democrats, it would have been a positive thing.

Portman is anti-abortion, but switched to pro-same-sex marriage a couple of years ago.

I don’t believe Portman is pro-abortion, and your statements are generalizing, not true at all.

As for your theory that everyone that turns pro-abortion eventually will turn pro-same-sex marriage, and that everyone that turns pro-same-sex marriage eventually will turn pro-abortion, I disagree. They are separate issues with completely different social and philosophical underpinnings. I can think of several principled pro-lifers that will not deviate from that position even though they have caved to the sodomofascists on the definition of marriage.
As for Portman, he turned his back on marriage because his son came out as gay and complained to him, and he thought that he was being a good father by supporting same-sex marriage. It was a one-off thing, not a conversion to liberalism.

Oh, come on now, don’t be so elitist. I’m sure some random hotel van driver or some random nanny will be able to raise the money and run the sort of disciplined campaign required to defeat Senator Rob Pirtman in the primary and ex-Congressman and ex-Governor Ted Strickland in the general. I mean, it’s just a U.S. Senate race in Ohio—entry-level stuff, really.

It’s a shame that he allowed himself to be bullied by his son.
There are pro-life people who support gay marriage and vice versa, but I think its safe to say that there's about 80% or more overlap when it comes the pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage crowd. It's very telling that Portman's fellow pro-gay marriage Republicans in the Senate (Kirk, Murkowski, etc.) are the LEAST conservative members of the GOP caucus. I fully expect Portman to cave on more issues in the future (another one they frequently sell their soul on is amnesty for illegals) and "evolve" further left if he remains in the Senate.

If their child's feelings trump the good of society for these RINOs, what's to stop them from converting to pro-abortion overnight if their daughter had an abortion? After all, according to their logic, merely disagreeing with the child's actions means they don't really love them.

Portman donated $100,000 last June to Thad Cochran in Mississippi to help fund the race-baiting tactics in the Republican primary run-off. Portman is a neighbor who lives less than one mile from me. I know him personally. I’ve campaigned for him, volunteered time for him and donated a lot of money to him. No more. Portman is dead to me.
