Happy Earth Day! Scott Walker Warns of Layoffs for Dept. of Natural Resources

According to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel item, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be able to take to the stump in his bid for the White House and claim to have cut Wisconsin’s state budget yet again.

An employee of Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources appears to have run to the media because a notice of potential layoffs due to budget cuts was circulated. Private sector employees don’t get to enjoy this luxury of media coverage attempting to prevent human resources actions over budget shortfalls.

It’s as if government workers are scared, somehow—especially those working in areas embraced by the political left.

Fifty-seven employees of the state Department of Natural Resources began receiving formal notices this week that they might face layoff as part of Gov. Scott Walker’s budget for the next two fiscal years.

DNR spokesman Bill Cosh said that of that number, 27 employees are in the Bureau of Science Services, a unit of the DNR where Walker is proposing significant cuts.

The bureau performs significant research duties for the DNR, and the cuts have come under fire from wildlife and environmental groups who say research is the underpinning of many agency activities. Other positions that could be cut are education and communications personnel.

What’s presently unclear is what, if any jobs will actually be cut, or if any of the supposed research is redundant in any manner. As the article points out, other areas besides the one being impacted do conduct research across the broader area of concern.

Sounds like a fitting marking of the day. I can’t wait to see the EPA dismantled! That will be a huge boon to the economy.

The DNR in Wisconsin is "an army of trough feeders with unlimited power". I found them several times lurking about my farm with no permission to do so. My herding dogs would come get me to alert me to their being on the property. I would ask him to leave and he would refuse and threaten to shoot my dogs.

They have more power than the cops or local government.

Gotta love the spin. Walker is proposing “significant” cuts. OK, what are they? Was the budget $2 million and he’s proposing cutting it to $1 million?

Also I love the line about how the department performs “significant” research. OK, what is that research and can it be done by another department? Show me how the results helped people. Prove that the research was significant and not just some job saving nonsense or liberal propaganda disguised as “research.”

The research was significant to the researchers because it justifies their job in their opinion. Typical gov circular logic.

Indiana’s game wardens have excessive powers, too. Oh, they hate being called “game wardens”, the title is “conservation officer”. We are overrun with deer, raccoons, coyotes, turkeys, and there are local sighting of bear, big wildcats, and raptors. The state is more concerned with protecting the wild animals and confiscating guns, trucks, and ATVs than in mitigating property damage and loss of domestic pets and livestock caused by too much wildlife.

I’d be happy to see Indiana’a DNR cut by 50%.

Happy Lenin’s birthday and we also honor earth day’s founder, Ira Einhorn, the murderer of his girlfriend, Holly Maddux. In honoring Earth Day, Americans are wiping their faces with cultural excrement and saluting it.

Yeah, and Ira Einhorn was defended by Arlen Specter. All these worthless people are connected!

Is it a physics principle that says like dissolves like? It seems to fit those two (Einhorn and Spector).

I visit WI every year or two to visit family there, so I haven’t interacted with the DNR there much, but from when I have, and what I have seen when I have been there to visit, I’d say the DNR in WI is an organization that has needed rolled back in size and power for a while now.
