At New York Reception, Ted Cruz Is Said to Strike Different Tone Toward Gays

[Admin note] Title and text changed at source. New title: "Ted Cruz Is Guest of Two Gay Businessmen"
Senator Ted Cruz, the Republican presidential candidate, has positioned himself as a strong opponent to same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was “ordained by God.”

But on Wednesday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator struck quite a different tone.

During the gathering, according to two attendees, Mr. Cruz said he would have no problem if one of his daughters was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.

The dinner and “fireside chat” for about a dozen people with Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, was at the Central Park South penthouse of Mati Weiderpass and Ian Reisner, longtime business partners who were once a couple and who have been pioneers in the gay hospitality industry.

“Ted Cruz said, ‘If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much,’” recalled Mr. Reisner, a same-sex marriage proponent who described himself as simply an attendee at Mr. Weiderpass’s event.

Mr. Reisner and Kalman Sporn, who advises Mr. Cruz’s Middle East team and served as the moderator for the evening, said that the senator told the group that marriage should be left up to the states.

He did not bring up his own opposition to same-sex marriage during the evening, which focused mainly on foreign policy.

An aide to Mr. Cruz, reached on Thursday, reiterated that the senator is opposed to same-sex marriage.

Mr. Cruz has honed his reputation as a grassroots firebrand, who was strongly supportive of the Indiana religious freedom law that was recently blasted as discriminatory by gay rights activists. [snip]

can you be any more condescending and insulting rita?

This is a BIGH BIG issue with conservatives, this isn’t something like him stating “I support higher taxes to pay for.....” The gay marriage issue is a CORE issue

If you feel it’s fine for conservatives to constantly compromise their core values and morals just to win- then whatever- you’re welcome to your opinion- but I find it cowardly

[[God’s hand of mercy and grace is still extended to the lost sinner,]]

Now we’re getting into predestination- and that’s not soemthign that I have tiem to get into- Those verses declare that these uncalled people ARE hated by God- not that they ‘will be’ hated by God when they ‘finally reject Him’

Anyways, like I said, there are actually quite a few verses that talk about God’s hatred of sinners

[[The federal judges have taken the choice away from the states, so “let the states decide” is a cop out answer.]]

I agree Donna- States took over marriage from the church as well- so again ‘let the states decide’ is a weak answer as well- I wish He had said “In God’s eyes homosexuality is an abomination and should not be endorsed by the states in my opinion” or something along those lines

I see. Thanks for the explanation.

(Thought it might be more of our famed FReeper stealth sarcasm that comes out of nowhere and disappears.)

Yes, of course, in the Old Testament and before Christ showed up on the scene, and for those who reject God’s salvation in Christ..

But sinners is why Christ came and gave his life to save those who come to him that were lost.

Being opposed to same sex marriage does mean that you hate Gays.

The best answer for a Republican on the question of whether homosexuality is genetic or a lifestyle choice is that the candidate is holding off on that answer to avoid saying the wrong, politically incorrect thing because President Obama says that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice.

My wink was intended for the reader to know I was teasing/joking/being jovial. I’ve never known a wink to signify sarcasm, and I don’t see how my words could be misconstrued as flirting.

“...the article makes it appear that he also said ‘I would be fine with it if....’”

It is obvious it is the gay person saying that and not Cruz. If you are taken in by this gay person misconstruing Cruz's words, you might as well not be for Cruz because this is going to happen zillions of time before the presidential election. You need to learn about Cruz the man. Go to his website and read about him. Learn about your candidate and don't take the word of his enemies, and gays are his enemies, along with every other kind of freaking liberal.

Cruz has made it clear before that marriage is only between a man and woman. He is a deeply religious person and there is no way he is for gay marriage. I say again, don't be swayed by liberals as they try to destroy him.

[[But sinners is why Christ came and gave his life to save those who come to him that were lost.]]

Again, we’re getting into predestination and there’s another issue as well- in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God- Christ is God, God hates some (some say God hates the non elect) etc- these are all issues that need careful study- the argument can be made that Christ came to save those who were the elect only-

John 17:6-10. Jesus says, “I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.”

But again, We need to be careful- this is a heavy issue-

“I must say I am shocked that Cruz skipped the AG vote.”

I haven’t read about that but my guess is the vote came up when he wasn’t expecting it and he couldn’t get there. No way would he skip a vote if he was there.

Oh, kinda like a meaningless overused "I'm LOLing" emoticon.

Thanks. Several folks are helping me out on this thread today by explaining what is obvious to me and everyone else.

(I think you were flirting with someone; thou protesteth too muchly.)
