I honestly don’t like seeing our carriers in a tight narrow area like this. I know we have to use the canal, but it sure seems like an opportune moment for someone wanting to do harm to our carrier.
Yeah, I’m glad we couldn’t see almost half of that.
Made this transit a few times myself.
Ex-conning officer here. I believe the seat of my trousers has just been sucked in halfway to my tonsils. Thanks a lot.
I am a civilian with a dumb question. What is there to prevent an attack on the aircraft carrier while she is transiting the Suez Canal?

That video made me pucker, too. What precautions are taken?
It seems possible to hide some Excocet missiles along the way.
BIG STICK!!!
Sane Egyptians do not want a nuclear accident in their moneymaking canal. Which attacking a nuclear carrier could produce. It might never reopen. Will the sane ones remain in control? It’s a matter for faith.
BIG STICK!!!
Arrogance gets people killed and sinks “unsinkable” ships.
I was referring to the Roosevelt’s nickname..!
I do agree with you about arrogance
Can someone please explain how the night time navigation works?
Thanks for the clarification.
I don’t honestly know if that’s better or not. LOL
I care a lot about our crews and of course the infrastructure itself. It’s vital to our nation.
Night vision?
Always.
Though re their CIC, I can't help but suspect that they're tasked primarily with protecting muslim interests.
Short answer: Multiple and for a 10 billion dollar ship their primary electronic device would be something like a Garmin or RayMarine GPS device with multiple TV monitors displaying EXACTLY where the ship is in any harbor or canal.
In addition, not wanting to totally count on electronic devices, there likely would be lookouts posted all over the ship with night vision goggles and binoculars and radios in direct contact with the bridge and OOD (Officer of the Deck).
In my day, I would sit there and look at a radar screen constantly oscillating and portraying a picture to me and I reported to the bridge. We had night lookouts too but no night vision. The biggest danger was the guy on the radar lapsing into a trance from watching the radar line circling the screen.
