Next week, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear cases that will likely determine whether same-sex marriage will become a legal nationwide.
The justices have rolled four cases together that will allow them to decide two questions: must states recognize other states' gay marriages, and does the Constitution require states to allow same-sex marriage?
Some believe the justices have already decided to create that right before hearing the case. But others say the matter is far from decided.
On Wednesday, a panel discussion at the Family Research Council was swimming upstream against conventional thought on the issue.
That is, it's a foregone conclusion that the Supreme Court justices will rule homosexuals have as much of a right to same-sex marriage as heterosexuals do to traditional marriage.
But these panelists pointed out there's evidence the justices won't rubber stamp gay marriage.
"When the lawyers walk into that courtroom on Tuesday morning, they're going to be walking into a situation where there are three-and-a-half justices who've said 'no constitutional right to same-sex marriage' and no justices who've said there is a constitutional right," former Supreme Court Clerk Gene Schaerr said.
One of the more interesting propositions brought up at Wednesday's panel discussion is that maybe the Christians of the world owe it to the homosexuals to point out that their lifestyle is intrinsically wrong.
"Faith actually teaches nothing about hatred toward gays and lesbians; in fact, the opposite. But it also says the behavior is damaging and harmful to your eternal salvation. That's the faith teaching," John-Henry Westen, editor-in-chief of LifeSiteNews, said.
"But they also know from the empirical evidence that the behavior is damaging to your body as well," he added.
Westen argued that Christians need to say to gays, "We love you enough to tell you this is harmful. In fact, we'll even take the hater and bigot label so that we can tell you this because we care about you."
The sad thing is it will be a moot point in 20 years if the current trend on the issue continues, no matter if the SC rules the right way now. I don’t think there is a state in the union that won’t eventually just repeal any marriage amendment they may still have by popular vote, given everything else staying the same.

I keep holding out hope that someone in power will speak out against an oligarchy ruling the nation, but I’ve been convinced for a while that is taking place. I don’t think those calling the shots are the public faces, though. My guess is that they are a minimum of two degrees of separation from the politicians.

They will force churches to marry them. And florists to provide flowers and caterers to cater and B&Bs to provide them honeymoon suites. It will never stop.
I think its a done deal. The individual states will have to decide whether to stand up and declare the 10th amendment or not.
Sam Olens our RINO Attorney General here in GA who I just voted back in last fall has announced that GA will immediately buckle under and do gay marriage if the SCOTUS rules that way. Way to never get elected again in the Bible Belt Sam.

The States should just abolish regulating marriage. They should just let the Church handle the issue.
Churches should not register with the IRS, period. If your congregation wants to do other things, form a separate entity.
Why surrender to them?
Civil marriage has been the bedrock of civilization for thousands of years, the leftist crazies want to destroy it.

They better do it soon because there will come a time, in the not to distant future, in the USA that you can no longer speak out against the government.
It will be for the security of America or some other made up reason.
Who or what will stop them? ..the USC? the Checks and Balances? Congress? the Media?
History is repeating itself and what we thought could never happen in the USA is happening.
Don’t give up your guns and don’t compromise your beliefs. Although, history shows us most will.
I have no doubt that they will try. They will certainly try (and have obviously already tried) to force businesses and private individuals to go along with same-sex marriages. But forcing clergy to perform a religious ritual against their will is, I believe, a line that no court, not even the most liberal courts in the country, will cross.

You mean the same states that decided not to take simulus? The very states who voted for Romney and McCain for President?
If the 17th Amendment had never been ratified then there would probably be all difference faces on the Supreme Court at this time, the Court composed of justices who respect family values, and 10th Amendment-protected state sovereignty to prohibit constitutionally unprotected gay marriage would prevail.
The 17th Amendment needs to disappear.
Short of forcing clergy to perform weddings, there are a lot of other ways social and governmental pressure can be brought to bear on churches. I think that’s what we’ll see first.
I agree to an extent; but the Federal Judges and some states are forcing the gay agenda on everyone anyway. I think it is a losing battle and our energy should be focused on other issues. I heard yesterday over 61% of the public favor gay marriage. I fear for my grandchildren in what they will face in our morally corrupt society in 20 yrs.
IMHO, the best way to deal with them is take away their issue. Filling out the government paperwork for a marriage license meant nothing. It was just a requirement the government imposed on me. To me the real meaning of Marriage is standing in a Church before God and making a commitment.
