My 17-year-old daughter has been known to call dreadlocks (on a white college boy) “cool.” “Blech,” I said.
Bo Derek had “cornrows,” a braided style, not dreadlocks. There is always a surge of white girls wearing cornrows when they come home from their summer vacation, but after a couple of weeks, they usually take it out and don’t get it done again.

This IS unbelievable, nonetheless. I suppose these festivals should come with trigger warnings.

Gee, that’s a pretty name. But as a member of the non-privileged American community, I apologize for that guy you had a thing for going to the festival with a white woman. I’m sorry none of the white guys gave you a glance because you were walking around with a chip on your shoulder - sneering at all the other folks who were probably having a good time.
You see, it’s not the dreads. I know you look in the mirror wondering why you can’t get any bedspring action with the guys thinking ‘maybe it’s my dreads’. No, honey - it’s you. You hate yourself for who you are and what you’ve become, therefore that’s all you see in anyone else. And with the attitude you express in your letter, its no surprise that the only friends you have are people that haven’t un-friend-ed you on facebook yet.
With that said, don’t worry. It’ll all be over soon. With that guy you love in the White House and his GOP co-conspirators illegally importing a whole generation of underclass from the third world, they will soon outnumber the likes of us - which means no one will care when folks like you start bitching about ‘microagression’ (what the hell is that, anyway?).

I rock faux-locs myself as a protective style for my natural hair, so I was very offended by every white person I saw wearing dreads.
The kind that starts with the conclusion (I'm offended/threatened/entitled).
This screed was written ~10 mos after the festival in question. Makes one wonder if it is a shot over the bow of EFF2015, or, more likely, simply a writing assignment for one of her Angry Studies courses.
Those were cornrows on Bo Derek. Cornrows are are small, neat braids. Dreadlocks are matted strands, messier and unkempt. Keep your afro hairstyles straight (pun intended).
I was aware of that, but thank you. Someone asked for a picture of Bo Derek from the movie “10”, so I gave them one.
Of course you are honey child. And you can judge all you want, there is nothing wrong with that. I think however you would cry like a stuck baby if someone judged you or if you even felt like they were judging you. Tit does call for tat.
And the amusing thing is that you likely call on a daily basis for people to step outside their comfort zone but if they do you are right there to judge them.
There is obviously a history of voodoo in Haiti, but that is changing particularly after the earthquake and all the Christian missionaries going to the island.
