Ted Cruz knocks Scott Walker on immigration
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/24/2015 | Drucker

Posted on 04/24/2015 4:12:26 PM PDT by VinL

Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.

Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.

"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.

I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."

"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.

Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.

But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)

“But legal immigration? Yes.”

How many? We take about 1.2 million a year now. Cruz says he wants to nearly double that. If Cruz thinks it’s a good thing to double it, wouldn’t it be even better to quadruple it?

We’ve recently taken in more legal immigrants than the rest of the world put together. What do we have to show for it other than more crowded roads, prisons, and schools? And welfare/social security/medicare/Medicaid systems already teetering on bankruptcy?

The great majority of the increase in our population is fueled by immigration. We’re over 300 million people now. At what point can we shut the immigration spigot down—500 million? One billion? Will we be a better country then?

CA has been turned into separate immigration camps of every description, many of which were welcomed in legally.

Not being sure of your age, I have no idea if you recall the once-Golden State of the 50s and 60s. In any case, when did you start noticing the changes for the worse? Was it gradual (like the frog being slowly boiled in water) or was there a time period you can point to when the influx began?

Exactly right.

Keep a eye out for Sen. Cruz[and all politicians] concerning TPP.

Cruz Supports Giving Fast Track Authority on Trade to Obama[youtube]

The rise of globalization, importations of legal and illegal immigrants has corresponded with the great stagnation the US.

What part of their liberalism has been promoted here? I’ll tell you what part—about as much as their two inches of cortex could accomplish.

Meanwhile they answer to sociopaths who, though they might have some amount of brainpower, are ultimately defeated by the most potent weapon anyone could ever use against themselves—narcissism.

What about the Bobby Jindal’s in this world who are conservative ?

What some are really against if they are honest is that they don’t like the skin color, or eniticty , race of certain immigrants that come here...

I would vote for Bobby Jindal in a heart beat if he became the GOP nominee..

I have seen people from India come here through legal immigration and become one of the most productive citizens of American society, or is it ? That some here only want a all white society ?

So as long as the immigrants come here legally, assimilate, love America, are productive citizens, conservative, I have no problem who they are...

Rest assured, if Cruz stands at the podium and calls for a 10-year moratorium on all legal immigration, he’ll get my vote. It will prove he understands what we’ve gotten ourselves into.

I have long understood what these reckless chaotic immigration policies have done. I’ve unfortunately seen it first hand, close up.

Regardless of legal status, no one will ever convince me America needs even more people at this point in our history.

It is a question that I have not gotten one to answer yet.

Quality of life never enters into these discussions as we flood ourselves with endless millions of exotic foreigners from all over the globe.

Mass immigration without end, forever, the endless humanity pushers never give a number for when enough will be enough.

Personally, I thought that America was fantastic when it was at about 200 million.

“I’m sorry, but Ted Kennedy’s 1965 Immigration Act must be repealed, and legal immigration must be capped at no more than 1000,000 a year.”

Kennedy’s anti-European immigration bill should be repealed, the numbers of legal immigrants should be capped at no more than 50,000 a year (at that number we’d still be creating the equivalent of a moderate sized city every year), and there should be a high standard on WHO is allowed in—important scientists, inventors, etc. We don’t need millions more cab drivers.

Go to Detroit, San Antonio, Camden, Newark, East St. Louis, El Paso or Oakland and tell me what a great value those non-white Americans are to America.

Illegal immigration is not substantive? That's your stance? Who is feeding you these lines? Kabar, seriously, that's just nonsense.

Of course illegal immigration is substantive. Every politician is against it, left and right.

Untrue.  If they were against it, they would institute policies to get illegals to self-deport.  Instead they institute polices to make them legal residents and eventually citizens.

Obama and McCain and WALKER are against amnesty.

That is a lie. They advocate giving them legal status at once.  Once legal status is granted, those illegals will never leave the nation.  It is amnesty, no matter what they or you call it.  And you know it.

They just redefine what amnesty means.

No, they just try. You can't redefine the word.  Letting people stay here is a reward.  It's amnesty.  Once an illegal registers, they are a legal U. S. resident, and will never leave.  A M N E S T Y

No politician supports mass deportation. But the alternative is not a blanket amnesty. We had a one-time amnesty in 1986. When you reward something, you get more of it.

LOL, so allowing people to stay here now, register, obtain legal status, and then become a citizen in five years isn't a reward.  Oh okay.  I guess I was confused.  (NOT!>  (GOOD GRIEF!  One of us sure is.)

You are acting as if it's wrong to take a guy to task for lying about the number one issue facing our nation. I'm not being unfair to Walker.

I said I get it. He is a liar just like every other politician.

So you admit your guy lied.  And then you pull the Clinton defense out of your ---.  Kabar, bud, you're kiling yourself here.

This is Clinton Subterfuge 101.  Did you learn nothing from those years?

We didn't buy it from Lanny Davis, James Carville and a whole slew of other Clinton spinners.  Why should we buy it from you?

They are evolving is the way they describe it.

Pure manure, when they say it.

I am very happy that at least one politician has the guts to talk about the elephant in the room, legal immigration.

Yes, and you're admittedly thrilled it's a liar.  If the man lies, you can't trust anything he says concerning any of his policies.  You didn't learn a thing from the Clinton or Obama administration's lies?  They lie.  You can't believe anything they say.

And yes, that is substantive.

The corporate, media, and political elites will go into overdrive to squash Walker.

Walker is no Jeff Sessions.  I have yet to catch Sessions lying to us.  Comparing Walker to Sessions is an insult to Sessions.  Walker and he DON'T share the same views.

Walker is the Chamber of Commerce on this issue.  The media will publish at least some negative things so that he will look Conservative.  They trashed Bush too.  They trashed John McCain for heaven's sake.

Jeff Sessions has paid a heavy price. Yet, the American people agree with Walker and Sessions. In fact, Sessions ran unopposed last year.

This is just propaganda.  You're insulting Sessions and us with it.  We know of Sessions.  Now we know Walker.  Walker is not in the same league as Sessions, and it's shameful what you're trying to do here.

No they didn't. They used to attack people who held the views Walker doesn't really hold. No offense, but you are really confused here.

As someone who was lobbying on the Hill against the McCain-Kennedy bill...

While Walker was suuporting it!  Did you forget that?  And we both know he still supports letting illegals pay a fine and stay.  That was the most unpopular part of McCain/Kennedy.

...as well as the Hagel-Martinez amnestys, and I followed McCain driving over a thousand miles during the primaries protesting against his position, you respectfully, don't have a clue what you are talking about.

I appreciate you trying to keep this on a respectful note, but I don't think it's respectful to act as if lying to us is okay, or comparing Scott to a well respected person when Scott has revealed himself to be anything but.  Not everyone does it.

If you rode around protesting McCain, then you should be able to listen to Scott's own words and know that he still thinks a fine, remain in place, and legal status is ok.  This is what you just claimed to drive around following McCain protesting.  Now it's okay when Scott says he'll do it.  Can't you see that?.

Anyone who talks about reducing legal immigration is attacked from the Left and the Right.

Kabar, he  is involved in a great big scam claiming he doesn't support illegals remaining in country, when he clearly does.  And now you're buying that he is telling the truth about legal immigration?

Oh what basis pray tell?

I agree with both of you.

I think we have enough people here and too many things that were formerly nice are way too crowded. The taxes never go towards things like road and bridge-building anyway, so the infrastructure continues to rot.

However, if we must continue accepting the entire, uneducated, fake-refugee third world, I’m not sure what is wrong with the quotas we had between whatever year and 1965.

My parents and grandparents — all highly educated, with jobs, careers, sponsors, speaking English, disease-free, never dreamed of robbing the taxpayers, etc. — all waited many, many years to be admitted to this country. FDR had given theirs away so they had no place to go except Siberia.

Back then, it was 500,000 a year, period, end of story. Women and children came first.

After 1965, the prejudice against Europeans, against Christians, against the hardworking taxpayers and non welfare-leeches, began in earnest.

We will see who retreats. This is the reason why Walker needs to stand firm and see where the GOP voters stand as well as all Americans. Cruz may be the one who will "clarify" his position. Walker is the one who is articulating Jeff Sessions' position, i.e., Becoming the Party of Work--How the GOP can help struggling Americans, and itself.

LOL, seriously, now you want to name individuals and ask me if I “like” them, and after attacking Ameericans as “lazy”, you are attacking us as racist?

We are smothering ourselves with an endless ocean of million, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of immigrants decade after decade with no end, and you want to name individuals, like my ex fiance, or a Louisiana politician, or my friends, and ask me if I “like” them because I want to end mass immigration?

Answer this question.

When will you agree to end mass immigration, at 500 million, 800 million, 1.2 billion, why not now, at 330 million, 130 million more than what we had when we went to the moon, and a quarter century after winning WWII?

Oh I dunno. How about this thread where liberal GOP backers are in a tizzy to get their proven liar into the White House at the expense pf a solid and unflipping conservative? If you fail to see that, without going into the syudd I told you earlier (and have no intention in reposting what we all lived through for 6 years) then I don’t know what to tell you. Willful blindness isn’t a desirable debate tactic.
