Ted Cruz knocks Scott Walker on immigration
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/24/2015 | Drucker

Posted on 04/24/2015 4:12:26 PM PDT by VinL

Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.

Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.

"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.

I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."

"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.

Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.

But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)

If they come where are they going to find jobs? We don’t have enough jobs for our own citizens?

Have you heard me once here say that I am against curbing immigration until we can get a handle on it ?

Nope, Nada, check my posts....

I am not against curbing legal immigration until we can get a handle on it and when the system and economy can handle it.

I am full set against amnesty and or illegal what ever they call it... Immigration....

What I am in favor though is ?

That if anyone wants to come here legally they should be allowed and welcomed, so as long as they go through the proper way..

Those who come here that yern to breath free, the cold and huddled masses.....

If we deny them freedom, we are basically saying...

” Freedom is for me, and not for thee “....

Kabar, come back and discuss this after you have dumped Walker.

Until then you have absolutely no credibility with me.

You told me you drove thousands of miles to protest against McCain when he was hawking McCain/Kennedy.

Now you’re supporting a man that still plans to implement the worst part of McCain/Kennedy.

That doesn’t make sense to me at all.

If you’re that mixed up when it comes to Walker, please don’t pretend to want to make sense at Cruz’ expense.

Why do you refuse to even acknowledge that raw numbers of people, especially foreigners, means something?

At what number would you say that we have enough people to make live beautiful for ourselves?

Ansel, the last ‘fact’ you brought up was that Americans never married young. Whicch was no fact at all. When you prove one incorrect thing I said, get back to me. To date, you never have.

I’m either supernaturally good or you are wrong. A lot.

There ya go.

If that’s an actual quote of Mr. Walker’s, then the man either has no clue, or he’s part of the big problem.

You really don’t get it do you.

You’re man is a lying bastard! And he has in the last few days tried to center his run around the very thing he lied about, his immigration policy.

I’m not backing Walker. The more you talk, the more resolved I am on the issue.

Huh?

As far as other countries and us, America IS for me, and not for thee, This is our nation, we are not obligated to give it away to other nation's people.

You are a little insane, I think. America EXPORTS freedom, we do not import the world's population, immigration is about OUR needs, and is to serve OUR ends.

Since when? Not for at least 30-40years. It SHOULD be that. It isn’t.

The birthrate is dropping dramatically also in this country....

Not good...

A society can not sustain it’s self with a dropping birthrate....

screw legal immigration, there should be a hold on it for 20 years. goodbye cruz.

Boy, how stupid is that? Deny entry to some smart, skilled folks who'd love to move here and bring all of that with them to America -- for what? You think that with immigrants like that moving here, it isn't a good thing?

"Putting on hold" for 20 years, starving America of such immigrants, would harm America and reward the nations where such folks were forced to remain, because those types are productive no matter where they go. My grandfather was one of those folks, a skilled artisan from Scotland.

Cruz is RIGHT as usual.

“Whatever it takes to take the job of every liberal and RINO backer would be a great number.”

The problem with that (il)logic, Norm, is that the great majority of immigrants, both illegal and legal, are going to vote liberal. So you’re only adding to the numbers of liberals (if not “RINOs”) by supporting mass legal immigration.

What’s so wrong with foreigners ?

Some become more patriotic, law abiding citizens, America loving citizens, constitutional loving citizens than some Americans I know.... And they too eventually become Americans...

Depend what terms you bring people in under. If you import uneducated folks, yup. You bet, more dems. If you bring in smart people screwed by socialism, you probably don’t in numbers that benefit dems.

It’s not like we have done a bang up job on the right have we? No. We DEMAND Romney types. Again. Gimmie me smart immigrants over American born garbage.

Ansel, the last ‘fact’ you brought up was that Americans never married young. Whicch was no fact at all.

That is a lie, and is absurd, you seem to be confusing marriage age data for the actual median age of marriage in the United States in history, versus people's impressions (including you), and the claims of the Mormon polygamy group that girls were married at an average age of 14 and 15 in the 1800s, when in reality the average age was much higher.

I agree, and Frankly I think Cruz is wrong to suggest more legal immigration. The one thing going for him the liar doesn’t, is at least he tells the truth.

All you guys calling for a halt on all immigration are so off base!!! You are so wrong!

A guy I know named Boogie is a brilliant German guy, middle aged, a whiz, can fix anything, great dude, good guy to have around anywhere, anytime. He wants to leave Germany and immigrate here. BELIEVE ME, America would gain.

Call it anecdotal if you want, but it is much more than that. It is a principle, and it is played out hundreds of thousands of times a year. Down here in So Cal, legal immigrants are the source of incredible vibrancy and innovation and prosperity. They are Americans.

Over the decades, over the centuries, America has gained the worlds best brains, bravest souls, most adventurous spirits, right here. It's what makes America what it is. And you guys want to put that on hold?

BIG mistake.

Cruz is right as usual.

Not a lie when most of FR gave you family proof. And I sorta doubt that only FR posters had family history with young marriage in it. That thread went hundreds of posts and you were rebutted 8 ways to wednesday. Go ahead and spout it more. Your cred is already zero.
