The number of confirmed and presumed HIV cases stemming from abuse of intravenous prescription drugs has increased to 142 in a rural part of southeastern Indiana and more cases are being identified every day, a state health official said on Friday.

The HIV outbreak, the biggest in state history, is centered on Scott County near the Kentucky border and now includes at least five cases in neighboring Jackson County, officials said.

"We likely haven't reached the peak of this outbreak, but we hope to soon through the continued comprehensive response made possible by the joint efforts of so many people and organizations," state Health Commissioner Jerome Adams said in a statement.

The 142 confirmed and preliminary positive cases is up from 106 cases two weeks ago. Typically, Scott County has fewer than five new HIV cases in a year.

a lot of this rests on pharma promising originally that they were never gonna push for oxy to be used on anybody but cancer patients absolutely positively! and then get it approved for use on everyone
I’m all for capitalism and personal responsibility and the time I took oxy for pain I felt nothing, but this was basically a setup to push synthetic heroin on the masses to make a fortune and I think it was disgusting.
in the same vein as only providing the FDA positive results for antidepressant testing and leaving out the one that showed no difference between them and placebo. make 200 billion and ten years later pay a 10 billion fine for deception. works out great

I truly doubt that this is “abuse of intravenous prescription drugs”, they most likely mean heroin. I doubt there are many prescription narcotics sold with ampules and syringes for self administration.

While there are many non-narcotic drugs sold that way, such as insulin and vitamin B-12 for pernicious anemia, narcotics almost always have to be injected by medical personnel.

The number of confirmed and presumed HIV cases stemming from abuse of intravenous prescription drugs

What does this sentence mean? The doctors over prescribed the drugs? Or, should the sentence read: "HIV cases stemming from illegal use of intravenous prescription drugs"?

“I often wondered how they can find enough pills to feed their habit until I overheard a couple of guys talking at the pub about selling the 120 Vicodins they each get a month, courtesy of the taxpayer. $5-10 a pop.

Supplements their Supplemental Income quite nicely”

I’ve been talking about this kind of crap on FR, for years.
I’m always amazed at how far some Freepers are insulated from the reality around them.

“Isn’t there a liberal needle-exchange program there?”

Yes, at least temporarily okayed by Pence. I had hope for Pence as a possible presidential candidate but now he’s been shown to buckle under pressure.

And now they’re gonna have one (needle-exchange) in Louisville, too.

It’s all heroin and needle sharing. Wisconsin actually has extensive needle exchange programs in rural areas that have helped avoid this problem even as heroin has skyrocketed in the state.

They’re buying their drugs with taxpayers money, why shouldn’t we be liable for the consequences? /s

For drugs such as steroids, the user generally has no issue with changing needles because they usually have finances for more steroid needles. For cocaine or heroin, they often do not, because they screwed up their livelihoods via their addiction, so their source of income to keep getting new needles is shot.

As usual, there is an incredible amount of smoke in this little fire. HIV cases initiate a Pavlovian response from the press, CDC, medical community and socialist politicians. Poverty, lack of jobs, drug abuse, needles and despairing people are brought to the fore, because the heartless masses need to care.

As I perused this article, there was much mention of people who were victims; huddles masses, forlorn persons, sexual partners who all needed help. The few cases that did get highlighted involved young men. Of the 190 HIV victims discovered to date, how many are males? There is no doubt that intravenous drug use is helping to spread the diseases, but are the victims all males who share more than needles?

This is a modern day Opium War waged on what is left of white America in former Norman Rockwell type towns. It is probably exceeding expectations of the global elites who cooked the idea up.

Yet they have rituals for searching it out, cooking it, INJECTING IT, and vomiting, but they cant take the time to rinse out an AIDS infected needle prior to the fun?

Screw em.
