James Holmes, the man accused of one of America's worst mass shootings, suffered from schizophrenia and thought President Barack Obama was talking to him through a television, his lawyer said.
On July 20 , 2012, Holmes shot dead 12 people and injured 70 during a midnight screening of Batman film The Dark Knight Rises at a cinema in Aurora, Colorado.
Holmes, 27, a former neuroscience PhD student, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to multiple charges of murder and attempted murder. His parents Bob Holmes, 64, a Stanford-educated mathematician, and mother Arlene Holmes, 60, a nurse, sat a few feet behind him as his trial opened at Arapahoe County Court.
Daniel King, his lawyer told the jury: "When James Holmes stepped into that theatre in July 2012, he was insane. His mind had been overcome by a disease of the brain that had plagued him for years.

Obviously incurably and permanently mentally ill and a danger to society.
Lock him up in a cage in a mental institution, push food through the bars and hose him down once a day. He can stay there until he dies. The risk of letting him loose is just too great.
Holmes is a typical POS leftist, which is way the state run media realized they could no longer blame the tea party but continued the narrative for gun control. Same thing with the Gabby Giffords shooter. The killers are ALWAYS leftist, liberal, democRAT voters.

Wait. How do you know with certainty that Barry WASN’T talking to him through the TV? We don’t know what Barry does in his off time...and we know he hates white people, especially Christians.
What he did took a lot of planning. Also, and I hope they’ll make it public information later, his apartment was rigged to explode... right?
Maybe he was ‘alienated’... but I don’t think he should get away with ‘insanity’

I pity his family. Do you know how difficult it is to get treatment for a mentally ill adult child? Unless they hurt themselves or others, your hands are tied.

There was an attempt many years ago to remove the “Insanity defense” and replace it with a “GUILTY but insane” plea.
