A Modest Proposal-- Regarding the opinion of Obama's mouthpiece, the intellectual giant Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, that religious institutions may lose tax-exempt status if SCOTUS rules in favor of gay marriage:

It has become increasingly clear that Christians, like Native Americans, cling to traditions and beliefs out of step with mainstream America. Christians, therefore, should be treated like Native Americans. Lands should be set aside for Christians who are the inheritors to the title of "the tribes of Israel", and upon those lands Christian culture and tradition shall rule supreme. Just as Native Americans are allowed to fish year round without the necessity of procuring license or permit, Christians should be allowed to provide or not provide cakes, flowers, chairs or pizzas for weddings without complying with US Federal Government dictates on "Tribal" grounds.

Native Americans have their Casinos and sell cigarettes free of Federal Government taxation. Christians, too, should therefore be allowed to run their Friday Night Methodist Bingo Games and Annual Knights of Columbus Crabfeeds and Chickenques, so long as they do so on land set aside for such purposes, in Quonset Huts erected for followers of Christ, the way they are for the followers of The Great Sky Father.

Naturally, just as on Native American Reservations, Christians shall be responsible for policing themselves, and if Christians want to keep local police authorities, who are looking for some clergyman accused of a sex offense with an altar boy, off their land, that shall be their perogative in the same fashion that the Pomo tribes of California prevent the local constabulary from searching the Quonset huts of the Great Pomo Nation for those Native Americans who murder taxi drivers and rob liquor stores....

In Robert Heinlein's "Future Histories", that's exactly what happened. It was called Coventry, and those who could not adjust to the new order were sent to live there.

Naturally, the equating of Christians with Native Americans should continue until the former are reduced by the Federal Government to the levels of economic, intellectual, and spiritual poverty as the formerly Great Indian Tribes of American landmass....
