You most certainly did. I took a look at some of the cartons containing the individual meals and found a packing date. Technically, it was the follow-on to C-Rats which were called MCIs or Meal Combat Individual. It was 10 years old (packaged sometime in 1960).
Flying Rats will eat anything............
Frankly, I’m amazed that they were serving pork. I woulda bet the PC types would have taken that off the diet in consideration of muzzie sensitivities.
I agree, I recall eating C Rations dating back to the 40’s. I believe it was in 1969. I really miss C Rations. The pound cake was awesome.
I guess I just do not see why today’s society is so picky. Canned food, properly stored in a cool, dark, dry place will last indefinitely. To spoil it needs to be in excess temps and/or exposed to the atmosphere. Frozen foods if kept deep frozen in an air tight container will not spoil.
I just do not see the the problem here.
If the SHTF, I will be eating dated canned food while the whiny babies starve.
I ate a 17 year old MRE last year. Still breathing.
Didn’t some Russians eat some mammoth meat? I sort of remember reading that somewhere, maybe here.
“I ate a 17 year old MRE last year. Still breathing.”
Yeah, but which one?
That’s funny.
Chicken I think. Can’t remember. We had a bunch of them that weekend.
some stuff , if sealed well, can last for awhile.. i had some old crappie fillets I finallly parted ways with,, many years..it looked.. bad. it was more a sentimental keep anyway. ;-)
If you were in the SE US back in 74'-77' I know you did. We inspected warehouses full of rations that were packed during and before the Korean War and found them to be wholesome and therefore were issued to the USAF, Navy, and Army troops. However, we removed the cigarettes out of the packs and in one warehouse we had a mountain of small packages of cigarettes.
I was going to post this but had a busy day.
Without regard to the children/school lunch question, my question:
How is it possible there is so much money to be made in school & prison food to have meats kept in freezers for 4, 5 & 6 years? It costs money to run freezers & freezer space is at a premium.
Who made all the millions of dollars during the ‘storage phase’ and who made the $$ selling ‘surplus’ meats to the school district?
Are we looking at a situation mirroring the Fred Monem/Oregon Corrections food scandal from a number of years ago?

Who got the kickbacks???
This is much, MUCH bigger than simple ‘out of date’ school food. Someone needs to be asking the right questions.
Calling all journalists:
(crickets)
Heard Rush last week talking about how much food we waste and how the government is now going to tell us to ignore expiration dates (which they decided we had to have) so we don’t waste so much.
This school is just doing its best to follow new government recommendations.
I never figured out what was atop that piece of bread. But then me and my mates were flight deck personnel and "s--t on a shingle" was a nice change from our stale baloney/cheese sandwich at 0200 during flight ops.
Now I read/hear that sailors have the best of food and even during mid watches can get burgers and such to order. I say good for them. They not be in "the shit", but they all work long hours and deserve a decent meal. Hell, if I weren't so old, I enlist just to get in the chow line.
Which reminds me, I never did find the "bulkhead remover".
I was at Ft. Knox 73-75 and remember cigarettes in the C-rats in basic training. I didn’t smoke so traded them for cans of peaches or fruit. I honestly don’t remember if there were any cigs in the C-rats in Germany during my tour there. I was in the field a lot. And I think it was during those years that cigarettes were removed.
I just realized, it will be 40 years this August that I arrived in Germany for my first tour there.

Hawkins County, TN is as close to a Muslim free zone as we have in this country.

I watched a video about a container ship voyage that had one segment about the galley and dining room.
Fine china and 4 star meals.
Doesn’t keep the beltway bandits from decreeing morality anywhere they want.
