When a member of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells security detail left his Glock and magazine stuffed in the toilet seat cover holder of a Capitol Visitor Center bathroom stall, a CVC worker found the gun, according to a source familiar with the Jan. 29 incident and two other disturbing instances when Capitol Police left loaded firearms in problematic places.
A 7- or 8-year-old child visiting the Capitol with his parents found the next loaded Glock lost by a dignitary protection officer, according to the source. A member of the security detail for John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, allegedly left the firearm in the bathroom of the Speakers Suite on March 24.
A third Glock was found the night of April 16 by a janitor cleaning the Capitol Police headquarters building on D Street NE. The weapon was left in plain sight, sparking additional concern about the department charged with protecting one of the worlds most important and frequently visited complexes.
Unlike a gun with a traditional safety, a Glock will fire if you pull the trigger making the young boys alleged discovery of a gun in Boehners office particularly concerning. The gun lost by McConnells detail was left in a CVC bathroom within the Senate office space portion of the complex, lowering the likelihood it would be found by a tourist or visitor.

Yeah, except it could be a honey trap.
I was on my way to da police to turn it in and din’t see nobody.
All around the Capitol carelessness, incompetence and lack of common sense is as infectious as bird flu and should be dealt with in the same manner; massive slaughter.
"It's an old-fashioned toilet."
A more likely scenario, the kids parents were Republicans and the boy was arrested for being a minor in possession of an illegal firearm.
LOL. “Extra mag” on the throne used to mean another copy of Popular Science or Fortune. Now I have all the mags on want on the iPhone. Not Magpul, but good enough for the business at hand. It’s my CCRM — concealed carry reading material.
Ha! Good tale.
In mid-2003 in Iraq, clearing barrels sprouted up like mushrooms. Many attended by sergeants major who had nothing better to do than monitor them. Those ‘senior enlisted advisers’ ran those things like a trapper runs his trap lines.
You couldn’t take a crap (or eat, or shower, or sleep) sometimes without having to pass a clearing barrel.
In that environment, where you’re constantly loading and unloading your weapons, while fatigued, was a breeding ground for accidents.
Setting aside the stupidity of doing this, with the attendant SGMs/CSMs, a round fired in the clearing barrel was a safety success and a training failure.
I witnessed a senior field grade, a competitive pistol shooter very familiar with guns, put a round into a barrel because he was so tired (removed magazine, didn’t clear chamber, pulled trigger). I watched a full-bull jack every round out of his Beretta to clear and couldn’t figure out why the bullets wouldn’t stop (didn’t remove the magazine).
Having said all that, when belt-carrying, secure the pistol on your body while en flagrente. Oh, and watch out for belt-carried magazines that can fall into the toilet while dropping trou. Ask me how I know... ;)
