Bake Me a Cake—or Else
The Weekly Standard ^ | 5/11/15 | Mark Hemingway

Posted on 05/02/2015 3:32:20 PM PDT by BlatherNaut

In January 2013, Rachel Cryer and her mother walked into Sweet Cakes By Melissa, a bakery in Gresham, Oregon, and tried to order a wedding cake. Aaron Klein, the co-owner (and Melissa’s husband), was informed Cryer would be marrying another woman. He apologized and told them that providing a cake for a same-sex wedding violated his Christian convictions. Cryer walked out of the store.

In a suburb adjacent to Portland, one of the most progressive cities in America, Sweet Cakes By Melissa was living on borrowed time once the incident became public. (The city is so famously tolerant that Sam Adams, the first openly gay mayor of a major city, survived two recall attempts after it was revealed that he had lied about having a relationship with an underage teenage boy. His supporters initially smeared those making the accusations as homophobic.) Protests started outside the bakery soon after, and by September 2013 Sweet Cakes had closed its doors.

You might think that once Sweet Cakes By Melissa had been driven out of business, the good citizens offended by the Kleins’ beliefs would have called it a day. But the totalitarianism of America’s liberal culture warriors is a thing to behold.

On April 24, 2015, more than a year and a half after the bakery was shuttered, Alan McCullough, an administrative law judge for Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries, ordered the Kleins to pay $135,000 in fines for violating the state’s public accommodation laws. It is impossible to see this award as anything but excessively punitive. A few years back, a New Mexico wedding photographer was penalized by that state for refusing to work at a same-sex commitment ceremony. The fine in that case was $6,637.

Fedex the cake to Tikrit, and buy the happy couple plane tickets to go pick up their cake there.

The Muzzies would explain the error of their ways to them...

That isn’t funny. Not at all.

If I was the baker, I’d refuse to write on any wedding cakes, and I’d post a sign that 25% of the proceeds from every wedding cake would be donated to a traditional marriage group.

Hey - Portland is already lost to the enemy.

They'd just be swapping GreenieRainbowFascists for Islamofascists.

The Islamofascists would teach the Greeniefags what ruthlessness really is.

I think that is a little thing called “turning the other cheek”, which is ultimately a battle plan of a different sort.

I've given a lot of thought about that strategy over the years, and how it relates to how our culture has changed. For example, how would John Wayne or Gary Cooper fare in today's Hollywood, with Sean Penn and Michael Moore?

50+ years ago, the "strong silent type" was an admirable trait in a man. People respected it.

These days, "the strong silent type" will get absolutely steamrolled by aggressive Liberals, or even just a mouthy punk.

Turning the other cheek doesn't work anymore. The conservative strategy of being meek and passive has got to change.

Tell that to Clint Eastwood.

Tell that to Clint Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood vs. a militant Liberal =

Clint Eastwood will be called a racist and he will lose. What do you expect him to do, punch the Lib out? He would go to prison.

He would be shouted down to screams of racism, homophobia, white privilege, hate-mongering, etc etc.

Another example of a conservative not understanding the enemy.

A parallel example that rarely gets national coverage: If a religious school declines admission to children of homosexuals or children who identify as homosexual or transgendered, they are smeared in the media, see death threats, personal threats to administrators, etc.

Texas school rejects 4-year-old over lesbian parents
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/08/23/texas.school.lesbians/

In this case, I personally know the school had to up security in light of death threats against the administrator, teachers, etc. All because they don’t want the child to hear traditional teachings at mass and in class and go home crying to Mommy and Mommy that they are sinners, and they don’t want to change the teachings.
Instead of being respected for, “we want to teach our kids our way and avoid conflict, so it is just us”, the media portrays it as “evil Christians” - while the other side then threatens to burn down a school full of children, in the name of peace, love and tolerance.

Per the Supreme Court debates last week, the government has said, yes, it would be able to revoke non-profit status from schools like St. Vincent’s and others like these.

Hope Christian in Roanoke, Va

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, in Boulder

Davidson Academy turns down children because parents are gay
http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/2015/01/22/gay-nashville-brian-copeland-davidson-academy/22170797/

So a side that will threaten to kill Christians who decline to admit someone living in contrary nature to their views consider the other side intolerant. And if they can’t sue you into bankruptcy or threaten violence until you shut up or change, they see the right to undercut your finances.

The irony is that they still take funds for likely felons.
AKA, refusing to bake a cake for a gay wedding is worse than committing violent crimes.

I'd pay serious money to see that.

Fr. Z had a good suggestion.

Tell the perverts that you will bake the cake with the price being inflated.

Then tell them that all the money they paid for their cake will be donated to traditional marriage organizations and tell them that you will put their names down as the donors.

Hopefully they will walk out the door.

If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me.

I lost my Oregon list when my computer crashed last year, so please send me your name by FReepmail if you want to be on this list.

I would too. But this isn’t the movies. Clint would go to jail and the liberal would the argument and a large portion of Clint’s money.

Liberals have got it figured out. They know how to win.

Turning the other cheek goes hand in hand with the scriptures “Vengeance is Mine, says the LORD and I will repay.” and Fear not he who can destroy the body, but fear Him who can destroy the body AND cast a soul in Hell forever.

Beware the day of judgement.

all of which means the bakery should move to South Carolina or maybe Tennessee or some other nonbigoted state.

Let the queers rot in their Oregonian morass

there is no room for good folks in Oregon

Only problem is they will just move to other areas and the judge will rule the same way. But at least moving somewhere else for some time might work for a short time.

Tell the perverts that you will bake the cake with the price being inflated.

how would that be any different...? Once they realize the inflated price applies only to them, they’ll go crying to a judge claiming discrimination...and they would be upheld, without having to cook up a laundry list of phony maladies...

stupid idea, not thought out to its logical conclusion...

Do a search for Sweet Cakes or Franklin Graham.
