Limit access to your property via motor vehicle. All access is visable from the house, and has M.A.D sensors buried to detect vehicles.

Add IR beam fences to detect foot access, these are the red beam things you see in the movies, except they are not viable in real life.

Hardened door frames and doors (no glass panels in doors) and quality, not Chinese made deadbolts.

A good dog is always a plus.

Motion lights as mentioned in the article should be the first upgrade to any home. And fences and gates are a must as well.

(no glass panels in doors)

I'm amazed at how popular those remain....the house across the street had that setup, and while away some boogers broke the glass to gain entry.

Being as some decorative wrought iron was involved, and got damaged during the breakin, they bought a new expensive $3,000 door - yep; this one is also better than fifty percent glass.
