There is no “original right of freedom of association”. You may be thinking of “freedom of assembly”. “Freedom of association” is a right that was only recently asserted, based on civil rights battles in the 50s.
There’s also a common misconception that “freedom of association” gives business owners the freedom to choose not to do business with people for whatever reason. However, “freedom of association” is specifically limited in its application to groups advocating ideas or beliefs, in other words, groups engaged in political or religious speech. Businesses have nothing to do with this “freedom of association”, except as it comes into play with trade unions and groups like that which businesses have to deal with.
