Why Joni Mitchell fears she's being eaten alive by bugs from outer space
Daily Mail ^ | 5/8/15 | Leonard

...If the document filed by Miss Morris paints an uncertain picture of Joni Mitchell’s future, it also hints at the tormented private life of the gravelly-voiced singer, who in her glory years had flings with the Hollywood lothario Warren Beatty and the musician James Taylor, partied with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones and saw her albums, with their confiding, confessional lyrics, go platinum.

Mitchell’s latest medical crisis is just one in a long line of threats to her health. An only child, she was just nine years old when she contracted polio. She defied doctors’ predictions that she would never walk again, recovering after treatment in a children’s hospital, where she sang at the top of her lungs, despite having already started smoking cigarettes — which became a lifelong addiction.

Although she has complained of poor health for decades, it wasn’t until 2010 that Mitchell first said she was suffering from Morgellons, a rare condition widely thought by doctors to be delusional, in which victims believe they are infested with disease-causing fibres and parasites. It was identified only in 2002 by a Pennsylvanian lab technician.

‘I have this weird, incurable disease that sounds like it’s from outer space,’ the singer declared.

I hired a temporary helper who claimed he had this, these fibers coming out of his skin, he was totally convinced of it, and he was very weird.

If someone wants to see a truly fascinating movie that this is reminiscent of, check this out.

I know how she feels, only in my case it’s chiggers. It’s scary to do work in my forest this time of year.

That's funny. I'm only scared of those when I go into the city.

That kind of thinking works because liberals have managed to outlaw fist fights.

Until fairly recently, if a creep was being annoying and a punk, you could just bash him, or let him know that you were going to bash him if he didn’t straighten up and quit playing teen punk with you, or else move along.

On the plus side, she released some fantastic material in her heyday.

Yes she did. Good singer and an excellent songwriter.

I thought her album "Court and Spark" was one of the better albums of its day, maybe of all time. As the story says, her music is often confessional and autobiographical, and "Court and Spark" captured a point in time in which Mitchell was being caught up in - and overwhelmed - by the celebrity and drug culture of the late sixties and early seventies.

There are some very poignant moments on the album, and I had the feeling that Mitchell was falling into a lifestyle that was out of synch with some of her deepest values. But she was hooked. In a way she seemed very bright, but there was something flawed in her character, maybe a neediness or a void or self-doubt, that made her behave in a self-destructive manner.

Back when she had a voice.

Still, I think she does best when she just writes songs for people with better voices to sing. Kinda like with Bob Dylan so Neil Young.

Shut up and, well....Have somebody else sing.

>> in my case it’s chiggers

Chiggers like tight-fitting clothing, such as waistbands and sock tops.

Theoretically, then, working naked might reduce the number of bites. Wear a top-notch sunscreen, though.

“Until fairly recently, if a creep was being annoying and a punk, you could just bash him, or let him know that you were going to bash him if he didn’t straighten up and quit playing teen punk with you, or else move along.”

The liberal pundit, Mark Shields, only told the truth once in his life, but I remember it like it was yesterday (about 25 years ago)....

Mark: “ Conservatives give in too easily to us. If a left winger is pestering you, just punch him in the mouth. He will wipe off the blood, and say “ maybe you DO have a point there! “

I liked a lot of her music.

“Real good for free” is but one example. A fine ballad; innovative and with a moral that much of Hollywood would benefit from understanding.

The years have taken a toll, haven’t they.

“A local garden show said if you fill an old sock with sulfer , tie some string around it , and tap it on your legs and ankles occasionally , you won’t get bit . I haven’t tried it yet .”

Actually probably true. And if you take sulfur pills mosquitos will leave you alone. But every time you pass gas, it smells like the gates of hell opened up.

Joni is the definition of a maestra in my opinion.

Poet, singer, painter, sculptor, musician, writer. And sadly, flake.

Sorry to see her genius end this way.

No, chigroes is off limits as well. The politically correct term is Trombiculidaec Americans.

You’re a female, right? Only a woman would propose such an utter absurdity. :-)

She’s a musical genius. Everything I’ve heard about her as a person is negative — crazy, unpleasant, etc. Too bad, but for those of us who don’t have to deal with her personally, the work is what counts.
